Helen sat at her desk, waiting for the students to arrive. She had been missing classes for a few weeks, and she knew that was unacceptable. But she'd promised to herself, that she wouldn't commit that mistake again. She watched, bored, as the students entered one by one. After a wait for five minutes, she stood up.
"Hello and welcome to Herbology. I am Helen Adela, and I will be your teacher for this subject for the rest of this term." Deciding that introductions were unnecessary she said, "There will be no introduction as I know your names," She waved the register at the students.
"Today, we will be learning about the
Devil's Snare." She up to the wall behind her desk and pulled the string that opened a huge white screen.
"If you happen to be lurking around this plant, that would be very unwise, because this plant has the ability to constrict anything in it's surroundings." She strolled along the aisles. "Usually, when something constricts you, your reflex is to struggle and get out of it's grip. But that is not the case with this plant. It's the opposite. When you are in the hold of a Devil's Snare, struggling against it's grip makes the grip tighten. And you will be constricted with a much more stronger force and much more faster."
"Now, this plant isn't something that you find in your garden. It, as you can see in the picture, is composed of a mass of soft, springy tendrils and vines that possess some sense of touch. This plant uses its creepers and tendrils to ensnare anyone who touches it, binding their arms and legs and eventually choking them." She looked around, to see if the students were catching up with her. They ought to be taking notes.
Nodding to herself, when nobody asked questions, Helen continued. "It seems when a victim relaxes, and the plant no longer senses struggle or tension, it will pull its victims under its knarled vines and drop the bodies to the ground underneath, possibly because it registers that the victim has perished. Devil's Snare prefers a dark, damp environment. It will stop its movement in the environment in front of bright light and will recoil away from the heat of fire, so a well-placed flame spell such as bluebell flames will drive it away from its victims. It resembles the plant flitterbloom."
Going back to her desk, she stood in front of it. "Homework will be posted on that board." She pointed to a bulletin board that she'd put up on the wall a few days ago. "Class dismissed."
