She sighed as she asked her partner who tries the charm first. They both decided that she will. Nervous, she gripped her wand as her partner aimed at her. "
Expelliarmus!" her partner shouted while at the same time Aylee shouted, "
Protego!". She knew that she wasn't concentrating hard enough when she felt her wand being shot out of her hand and towards the wall. She went to pick it up and wondered how long will it be till she got it right.
Oh, come on! she told herself.
Didn't the Professor say that you won't get it on your first try? Aylee groaned to herself and stood up, ready to try again.
"
PROTEGO!"
Seven tries later, she still wasn't getting it right. Her partner kept offering to let her try again until she got it right. Most of the other students have already got it right by now.
I'll never get it right, she shook her head. She didn't feel like she could do it. Not at all. She just couldn't explain it. It was the feeling that she was sure she couldn't do it. She sighed again as she picked up her wand and joined her partner again. "
One more time and then you try," Aylee said to her partner. Her partner nodded and they got in position to try again. A few students were already done practising. Aylee tried to focus, determined to get it right. She had to try as hard as she could.
When fishing, the fish doesn’t leap out of the water into the bucket. You have to do your best to catch it, Aylee remembered her mother say that when she couldn’t figure out her homework questions and didn’t want to try them. She should try to catch the fish now.
When she heard someone yell, "
Rictusempra!", she woke up from her thoughts and yelled back, "
PROTEGO!" somehow knowing that she will do it this time. Her determination and concentration surely worked because this time, the wand got thrown back less harder. Aylee begged her partner to try one more time. The next shout of "
Protego!" certainly worked because Aylee's wand didn't fly off her hand at all! She grinned and did a high five with her partner. Now it was her partner's turn to try it.
