It was the first day of school, and Hogwarts was alive again...At least, in a different, positive way. Students roamed the halls with their arms filled with books, potions and the like. It was all very nostalgic for him, but it was also slightly annoying. Thaor knew the Hogwarts kids, and he would tolerate none of their bullshit. Admittedly, he was in a bit of a bad mood. School starting meant that he had to wake up early, and waking up early made him angry enough as it was. Then, there was also that trivial thing called a lesson plan. Also known as, the thing he had created right before his first period class. Surprisingly enough, they had seemed to like it, so he kept it running. However, now it was the very last period of the day; kids would be worn out and probably a lot less responsive. Being a new Head of House, he would also have to deal with the whole pushing of the limits crap. He wasn't quite sure exactly why he applied for the Head of House position this time around, but he was sure he would soon regret it. With a quick roll of his eyes and a wave of his hand, the door opened to the grand room. And soon it would begin.

The room itself was actually quite large. 30 desks were lined up in four consecutive rows. It wasn't the most exciting layout, but he didn't really care. Behind him, the entire wall was a chalkboard. Needless to say, there would be a substantial amount of notes in the class. To even out the depressing aura of the board, were floor to ceiling windows on the far right of the classroom. Luckily for him, it was a sunny day, and the nice view and blazing sunshine had kept him awake throughout the day. As the clock ticked ever closer to the end of the day, he almost felt like he was back at Hogwarts in one of those seats; anxiously anticipating the final bell of the day.

Nevertheless, he had to teach, and those kids had to listen, or it would be a lot worse for all of them.

Each day she spent back at Hogwarts made Lyra wish more and more that she had just stayed home. Or even better, been killed instead of Jack. There was a permanent scowl on her face nowadays and she could barely walk along a corridor without wanting to murder someone, usually loud or pushing first-years. That was why she mainly stayed in her dorm and avoided the halls at typically busy times. But there was still class. Even though it felt like the whole world should be stopping in its tracks and mourning for her brother. She practically ran to the library after Transfiguration, where she hid out until it was time for class to start.

Still, she was early, so the corridors were abandoned as she speed walked to DADA. At least it was DADA. She hadn't liked Professor Malfoy when they'd had him, but she liked the subject, and she was fairly good at it. Not that it would matter - she wouldn't be contributing at all, it was pointless.

Lyra was obviously the first in the classroom, so she went straight to the back and took a seat, deciding to ignore the professor who was weirdly young for a professor. How old could he even be? Sixteen? No, he had to be a graduate right? She stared down at her desk, suddenly conscious she'd been staring at him.

Karasu looked down at their course outline sheet. Defence against the dark arts, room 206 it read. Looking up at the number on the door and confirming this was the right room, Karasu walked in.
They were expecting a brighter, more welcoming room, like the one in their charms class. Instead this class looked all dark and gloomy. But I guess that was to be expected from a class with the words Dark Arts in it.
The room had a basic layout, with just 30 desks lined up in a linear order, and being the first one there, Karasu chose a desk, front row, halfway between the middle and the edge. Since the desks weren't touching each other, Karasu didn't have to make an effort to avoid anyone, the teacher did that already. Perfect.
Since only Karasu, some other person; probably not a first year, and the teacher were in the class, Karasu got out their quill and paper and started doodling as they waited for the class to start.

Defense Against the Dark Arts. It sounded really cool. As Matthew bounded down the hall to the classroom, he wondered if Ari would be considered a dark art, and if it was appropriate to use these defense methods against her. Did they only work against the dark arts, or were they also effective in getting annoying red haired Irish girls to stop singing? As Matthew walked, he wondered if this was an appropriate question for class. He thought that it should be, because surely it was better that he asked before just trying it out on his wanna-be friend.

When Matthew got there, there were a few other people. But the weirdest one was the professor - or at least, Matthew thought he was the professor? Or maybe he was just some old student dressing up as a teacher to trick them. He also recognized that Lyra girl that had been doing sacrificial rituals int he stone circle, but didn't choose to sit by her. Instead, Matthew took a seat in the middle of the classroom, and even though class hadn't started he raised his hand. Without bothering to wait to be called on, and leaving his hand high up in the air as he talked, Matthew asked the professor a very important question. "Are you really old enough to teach us?" he asked annoyingly.

Arwen walked into the DaDA classroom, happy to see that she wasn't late yet. She walked inside, and took a seat in the back, not wanting to be noticed, and decided to try to keep as quiet as she always did. She always managed to keep up with the lessons, that wasn't a problem. People might've called Arwen stupid, but they were the stupid ones. She was smart. She just wasn't very good at being social with people. So she silently opened her books and looked on as Matthew questioned the professor's capacity to teach. Arwen was almost in awe of him; she'd never dare to do such a thing...

Saryana walked into class. Finally! Defence Against the Dark Arts! She was dreaming about this lesson for years. She already knew most of the spells and also a lot of the dark creatures and how to repel them. Now was time for her to prove herself! She was ready for this! She didn't even listen to the annoying crazy knight this time, she practically ran from her last class to this. Too bad it was going to be a last class of the day. Usually people are bored till than.

She walked into the room, walking calmly now. She controlled her breath. Just than some boy asked the teacher if he was old enough to teach. Who was he to judge? She really disliked people like that. But today she didn't want to be sarcastic, which was something. She didn't want this awesome class to be ruined. Just than she noticed the teacher. Okay, she didn't see the problem. Yes, he looked at first glance young but that young? She was sure he was over twenty. Of course he was!

Danny Sinclair walked into his first ever Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson with his head held high and smile on his face. He was so excited to learn about fighting the Dark Arts. It was Dannys dream in life to become an Auror or work with the Ministry of Magic in some way, shape or form. Even if that meant just doing field work. The honor of wearing the Ministry badge would be such an enjoyable pleasure to him.

When he walked into the classroom, he realized he was not the first to arrive. In fact, many other students were already seated. He decided to sit next to an older girl in his house. She had long brown hair and dark brown eyes. He had heard her name being said befor ein the Common Room. He thought it ws Lyra. But he could be wrong. He smiled at her and got out his supplies for class.

Defence Against the Dark Arts. She wasn't entirely sure what the lesson involved, but she got the strange feeling it had something to do with defending yourself against evil. Was there a lot of evil in the wizarding world? Would she need these spells often in the future? Bry didn't know, but she was still going to turn up to class because the name of the subject was very cool. And spells which you were meant to use against evil probably did some pretty amazing things, which she wanted to know about.

The professor was young. Was he the professor? Or an older student out of uniform? Whoever he was, his hair was weird. Bryana smiled to herself and took a seat, deciding that it didn't matter how old he was, or what his hair looked like, so long as he was going to teach them really good spells for the future,

Ridley was really excited about Defense Against the Dark Arts. According to every wizard she'd ever met, that was one of the most blood-boiling classes, if she could even say that about a class. She managed to get to the classroom pretty much on time - not first, but also not last - and find a compfy seat. Looking around, Ridley realised she'd only ever seen most of the students there in other classes, and had never really talked to them otherwise. Oh well, she'd have to change that sometime.

Taking out her things, Ridley focused her attention oh the Professor. She'd already probably pissed off most teachers (and in the first five minutes of their classes, too) so she'd best be careful with this one. He looked young, but well, so did the others, and Rid didn't care, as long as they were being cool about her more... creative (and explosive) side.

Lyra was just unpacking her textbook and wand and quill from her bag when some boy came and sat next to her. She glanced at him and realised he must be a first-year. She did not like first-years. She did not like when random first-years she had never met decided to come and sit next to her. She would not tolerate that. Shooting the boy an unimpressed glare, she grabbed her stuff and moved to an empty desk at the other side of the room. Far, far away from him.

Danny frowned when the girl moved away from him. Had he done something wrong? He sighed and waited for class to begin. He decided he wold just sit alone seeing as no one would want to sit with him. Saryana noticed as some idiot boy sat down to Lyra VanDerberg. She had been told about her, really. That didn't like the first years much. Or those she didn't know, anyways. Man, why did everyone hate them? She again vowed herself to actually be nice to them instead of treating them like garbage or such.

As Saryana excepted, Lyra left the table. She only rolled her eyes slightly before returning to getting ready for class. What did that boy think? That a forth year would just be nice and all to someone she just meet and hardly knows anything? She rolled her eyes again. Just to be nice, she didn't look at who the boy was.

She began to think about the teacher again and putting different varieties in he head. Maybe he was a Metamorphogus? Someone who can change appearance at will? Some people just don't want to grow up, do it seems logical. Maybe he only used Poly juice potion just for the lesson? Ugh, no, you have to stop with your dream of making that potion, Saryana! It won't happen... She sighed. Maybe he just was that age? Shrugging, she began to read her mum's old textbook on this subject.

Thaor sat motionless as students began to take their seats. He was anything but excited for this particular class. First and second years were the worst students, if he had it his way the little freaks would not start Defense Against the Dark Arts until their third or fourth year, when they were a little bit more mature. Matthew Bennett was a perfect example of their stupidity.

All of Slytherin house applauds you for your stupidity, and losing the only points your house has. Five points from Slytherin. Thaor said, staring at Matthew.

Thaor stood from his desk and walked to the front of it. Welcome to Defense Against the Dark Arts. We will begin with your homework assignment, due on my desk by Friday noon. First years, write what you think Defense Against the Dark Arts is, and what you would like to learn this year. Second through Fourth years, write what you have learned so far, and what you would like to learn.

Now that that is out of the way, lets get down to today's lesson. I am Professor Thaorson Kam Elddirs, and some of you may have noticed, I have used magic to alter my appearance, can anyone tell me what I may have used to accomplish this?

Saryana rolled her eyes slightly when the professor toke points away. What was the boy thinking? That the professor would simply love to be called young? Some people could be idiots at time. But still, she needed to be nice if she didn't want points taken away from her own house now.

The girl frowned slightly when the teacher gave first years a special homework. Couldn't he at least ask them what they knew, if they did? Saryana would never miss a moment to show she actually knows stuff, unlike most. Oh well, she'll have to write this.

She smiled very slightly, almost like a smirk at the next question. She was correct! Of course she was, she is Saryana Greenwood! To show the professor that she was aware of the answer, she put jersey hand high in the air. But still would wait to be called. She didn't want to seem needy

Karasu looked up from their sheet - now covered in sketches, as the professor spoke. "Five points from Slytherin", he said. Tough, this guy wasn't messing around. It'd be best if Karasu didn't say anything, not even answer questions or raise their hand.

The prof walked around his desk, and gave out the homework. Karasu quickly scribbled it down, in between a drawing of two reference-face doodles. This was the first piece of homework they'd gotten all day, so it probably wouldn't take too long. They could probably just make it around two paragraphs, and could be done within the half hour.

Then, the professor gave a puzzle. He told the class that he used magic to alter his appearance, and the question was what. Unable to back down from the challenge, Karasu was quickly interested in solving this puzzle, however he hardly knew anything about magic. He looked through his bag at the titles of all his books. "Transfiguration" was the name of one them, and Karasu pulled it out. This one seemed to be the best fit, as transfiguration meant the alteration of ones appearance. They started flipping through the pages, in hopes to find some spell or something that'd be a good guess.

But there was nothing there. Turned out all there was was just objects, nothing for a real human.
Frustrated, Karasu went digging in their bag again.
What could it be?!

Next, Karasu took out their potions book. Nothing else really seemed to fit, and potions could potentially meant anything. They flipped through the pages very quickly, if there was one thing Karasu was good at, it was speed-reading.
Finally they came upon a thing called a polyjuice potion. "Polyjuice Potion is a potion that allows the drinker to assume the form of someone else.", the book read.
Yes, this seemed to fit.

Of course, Karasu still didn't want to speak out, or answer the question. This prof didn't seem like a nice person. At all. And they didn't want to 1) risk being wrong in front of the whole class or 2) lose house points. Priorities in that order.

What?! Matthew had lost points?! For asking a teenager if he was old enough to teach a class? That was so unfair! Sooooooo unfair! Where was his big brother Ollie when he needed him? Ollie would set this guy straight if he was here. But he wasn't, and Matthew was on his own. And all he could do was stare at the guy with his mouth hanging open, because he still just couldn't believe it! Matthew had never lost points for Slytherin before! Matthew was a good student! Sort of. He wasn't a bad one at least! And he wanted to complain about how unfair it was, but instead he just sat back in his seat and crossed his arms, because this professor was mean and he doubted he could say anything else without losing more points.

But then, the professor was assigning homework, and Matthew beamed happily because it meant that he could more than make up for the points he'd lost!! He already knew his answer - obviously. Because he wanted to learn as many fiery spells that could defend him about these mysterious dark arts as he could! And he had to unfortunately stay on this mean professor's good side if he wanted his help in becoming a fire master. And then, another chance to win points! He could maybe win back the five he lost right now! Matthew didn't have a clue what the answer to the question that the mean guy asked was, but it was pretty much a fifty fifty shot, right? A spell or a potion! Yeah, he was probably looking for a more specific answer, but that was besides the point. So, spell or potion?

In the end, Matthew just blurted one out - after raising his hand of course, because this git would probably take points away for talking out or something! "You used a potion!" he said confidently, although he really had no idea at all.

This professor seemed mean. Lyra liked him. It was mean in a good way, like he wouldn't put up with shit from annoying children like the one who'd decided to question his ability to teach them. She opened her textbook and flicked through a couple of random pages while she listened to him take away points from Matthew. But then she closed it when he mentioned homework and noted it down. She hadn't learnt much about DADA, for lack of teacher or effort, so the homework would be nice and short.

She sighed when he asked a question and the Matthew child answered. It wasn't wrong, nor was it right. It was just stupid. "Polyjuice potion," she chipped in. "Unless you're a metamorphagus." Oh. That was one of the only times she'd spoken for the whole term.

Karasu smirked when they heard they 4th year Griffindor say "polyjuice potion".
She seemed knowledgeable, and seemed very confident in her answer. Of course, that meant Karasu had been right with their guess. Karasu loved being correct, and having been able to have guessed the (probably) right answer, a whole 5 minutes before filled Karasu with glee.

Though her comment did also spark something else for Karasu. "Unless you're a metamorphagus", she said. Strange, Karasu had never heard of a thing like that.
They quickly skimmed through all their textbooks, each one pulling up nothing.
Quite annoyed, Karasu decided they'd have to go to the library after school to find out what it was.
