| Name: Shah Chelsea Hazel House: Gryffindor! Year: 1st 1. Where is the constellation Andromeda located? Ans- The constellation Andromeda is located to the north of the celestial equator.
2. Why is it named so? Explain the history behind it's name. Ans- The name Andromeda comes from Greek history. Andromeda is the daughter of an Aethiopian king in Greek mythology who, as divine punishment for her mother's bragging, the Boast of Cassiopeia, was chained to a rock as a sacrifice to a sea monster aroused by the queen's hubris. She was saved from death by Perseus, her future husband.
3. Andromeda is most prominent during -----------? Ans- autumn evenings in the Northern Hemisphere.
4. Which is the largest constellation? Ans- Hydra is the largest constellation.
5. Which is it's brightest star? Ans- It's brightest start is Alpha Andromedae.
6. What is a binary star? Ans- A binary star is star system consisting of two stars orbiting around their common center of mass.
7. Which galaxy is close to the Milky Way? Ans- The Andromeda Galaxy is the closest galaxy to the Milky Way.

| Name: Kim Frey House: Slytherin Year: First Year 1. Where is the constellation Andromeda located? It is located Northern Hemisphere Coordinates, Right Ascension: 01h and having an angle of Declination 40º
2. Why is it named so? Explain the history behind it's name. Andromeda was the princess of Ethiopia, daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia. Cassiopeia was a boastful woman, and foolishly bragged that she was more beautiful than Juno, the queen of the gods, and the Nereids. In order to avenge the insult to his nymphs, Neptune sent a sea monster to ravage the Ethiopian coast. Horrified, Ammon and Cassiopeia offered Andromeda as a sacrifice for the monster, for them not to suffer. Coincidently, Perseus saw Andromeda and fell in love with her beauty. He offered to kill the monster to have the girl's marriage. In the end, they lived happily ever after.

6. What is a binary star? A binary star is a star system consisting of two stars orbiting around their common center of mass.
7. Which galaxy is close to the Milky Way? The Andromeda Galaxy is the nearest spiral galaxy to our Milky Way galaxy.

2. Why is it named so? Explain the history behind it's name. It is named after the princess Andromeda of Greek mythology. Her parents were Cepheus and Cassiopeia, and she was chained to a rock and at the mercy of the monster Cetus to calm down the gods until one of the many Greek heroes, Perseus, rescues her.
3. Andromeda is most prominent during November, at 9pm (so in late autumn).
4. Which is the largest constellations? Hydra.
5. Which is it's brightest star? alpha Hydrae, which is also known as Alphard (which means "the solitary one").
6. What is a binary star? A binary star is a star system of (usually) two stars that move around one center of mass.
7. Which galaxy is close to the Milky Way? The closest galaxy to the Milky Way is the Canis Major Dwarf galaxy, which is actually in the Milky Way galaxy itself. If that doesn't count, then the Andromeda galaxy, or mabe the Magellanic Clouds galaxy.
