| Miranda was in a good place in her life. She had a stable job, and everything was going great. Better than great. She had been finally happy since her parents had died, and now she was about to make a big change. She had grown to care for the boy Alek had taken in like he was her own son. In a weird way, she felt that her parents had sent Phin to her to lighten her up. She felt like she needed the boy just as much as he needed her. Their relationship worked. He knew all about her, and she had told him everything one night when they had gone up to the roof of the building and talked while Alek was out. She told Phin that she wanted to take care of him. If his parents didn't want to then that was their loss.
She had written them a letter explaining the situation, and they had surprisingly sent her adoption papers already signed, and that broke her heart. They were willing to give up their own flesh and blood. Miranda made a promise to Phin that she would never give up on him. That she would always be there for him. The conditions would be the same as Alek. He would either have to work at the store, or go to school. She knew she couldn't make him. That would only make him resent her, and that she didn't want. He was to NEVER call her mum. She would just be Miranda. But she would still enforce rules on him and be his guardian.
The situation was indeed a little awkward considering there was only a two year age difference, but Miranda had talked to him about that, and he was fully ok with it, which surprised her. She knew this wasn't going to be easy, and he would end up testing her authority, and Alek would so judge her, but fuck him. This was something she truly wanted. And if he couldn't accept that, the she would take Phin and leave. She had enough money with her Great Grandmother's inheritance to raise both her and Phin, and pay rent elsewhere. But something was drawing her to stay, and she didn't know what. And that scared her. | |
