| Freja didn't know what to think of those mountains. They looked pretty harmless, as long as she was certain she wouldn't fall off, and it could be a fun way to spend her Sunday afternoon. But her sister had told her tales of how people had tried to climb the mountains and mysteriously disappeared, most likely eaten by the vicious monsters that occupied the mountains. Thinking about it, her sister did tell her a lot of rubbish. So she decided that it was just a myth, and it was worth going to have a look. Heights were a little bit scary, but she'd be fine if she didn't look down, right? And there was no rule to say she had to go right to the top or anything. Thinking of rules, was it against the rules to go up the mountains? Nobody had mentioned it to her, so she decided that if it was, she had an excuse. Anyway, she'd decided at the start of the year that she ought to take more chances and be more reckless - this was a great opportunity!
Imagining it would be even colder up in the mountain chain than it was in the castle grounds, she wrapped up warm, in a muggle coat because she was more likely to fall of the mountain wearing awkward robes which were too big for her because her mother had said she needed room to grow in than she was with a few layers of reliable muggle clothes. When she got out of the castle to the grounds, she began to rethink her hasty decision. It was very cold. And it was only going to get colder as she climbed. Also, she wasn't very co-ordinated even without her heavy cloak, so she might fall of and die, or get eaten by one of the monsters lurking at the top. But she sent these negative thoughts away by slapping herself in the face (after she'd checked nobody was looking) and carrying on towards the mountain, determined to do it.
Five minutes later, she'd made it to the bottom of a mountain, and she was frowning, because suddenly it seemed much more steep, and slippery, and difficult. But now she was here, so she may as well climb the stupid mountain now. Wrapping her scarf around her neck tighter, she began her weird little trek. It only took ten minutes until she was completely freezing, and not very high. Maybe she should have worn wizard clothes - they always seemed to be warmer, they were probably enchanted or something. This wasn't very fun. She hadn't looked down yet, and she didn't plan to unless she got really high up and it was worth the view. But then she heard footsteps behind her, and she was absolutely terrified the mountain monsters had turned up to eat her. This had been a terrible idea. | |
