| Having worked since 5am that morning, Mordred figured that he ought to take a break when the clock on his wrist showed 11:56 am. He didn't feel particularly tired, he never really did, but it would be nice with a break. He rose from the bench he was seated at in the room with the brains. He'd been checking up on them, trying to figure out more of the impact they could have on people, and if it would be possible to give a brain to another person who was brain dead. Not to mention trying to figure out what made some people's ethics be so diverse and even complete lack of in some minds. The results varied quite a lot, and to find a stable formula for it was neigh impossible.
As he made his way out of the department, he made a note to remember to check up how the research was going in the space room. People tended to slack off there, as the research was hard and even harder to focus on when they almost never had any new results. Mordred was trying to make something that would harvest powers from space, but he wasn't sure how to make it steady or how much it would have to be able to contain, as space was a rather uncertain factor. Sometimes it really hit Mordred what kind of a challenge he'd put himself in, being the head of this department. There were never any certain aspects.
He got to the lifts, and after the long ride up, he walked out into the atrium. Paperplanes filled the air above him, and people were hustling and bustling around. Sometimes Mordred wondered what all these people were doing in the atrium at this time of the day. They should be in their offices trying to get some work done, and not apparating here and there, or floo-ing to another location. Mordred found people to be lazy. It never failed to amaze him how people could ignore so many things just because they didn't want to do them.
As he approaced the line, the woman behind the cafe -who had finally learned that Mordred would not smile back- turned and started making fresh coffee. This he did appreciate, he just didn't have the time or knowledge of how to show the woman this, and even if he did, he didn't understand how people only needed a nod of approval to have their day made. Probably due to the simplicity of their brains. Mordred decided not to ponder about that now; he had had enough of brains for today.
He got his cup and sat down by a more secluded table, a bit away from all the people walking through the atrium. He took a sip and leaned back in his chair. At that moment he felt content. Just quite all right, despite all the stress he'd been through that day already. | |

| Kensi slouched her way up to the cafe. She had done nothing but paper work, and honestly it was getting kind of boring. What good was sitting at a desk signing papers? It wasn't helping humanity in any way at all. Maybe if her boss actually sent her out into the field more often. She silently wished and hoped for some robbery to occur that she could work.
At this point, she didn't care if anybody got hurt or not. It wouldn't matter to her. She now wanted a sand which. A sand which would make her less bored, and she would actually be doing something besides sitting there.
She got to the counter, said hello to the person working. She didn't know they're name and honestly didn't give a damn. Her visits to Knockturn Alley had changed her a little bit. She saw things, and heard things that she probably wasn't supposed to hear, but it was changing her view point on life.
She used to be the optimistic girl in the room who believed in happy endings, and ever lasting love, and prince charming, the whole shebang. But not anymore. She hadn't found her prince charming yet, and she hadn't had her happy ending. Life pretty much sucked sitting behind a desk working on pointless papers.
She wanted to make her mark on the world. And she wasn't doing a good job on this part. She looked around at the tables in the cafe, and saw there was no place to sit. Great... just great. Another disappointment in life. No tables. She saw that there was a single man sitting at one. She knew him too! She had ran into him here before!
She walked up to his table and asked, "Mind if I sit here? Everywhere else is full."
And at that moment, she felt like the little optimistic girl that she had been in her Hogwarts years and as a child. She had to face reality. What if he said no? She would just be let down once again by humanity. |
