Lesson One: History of Azkaban Prison [Y2]

After receiving the news that he is again, to be admitted as a professor in Hogwarts, Ashton knows that he is quite thrilled about the second opportunity given to him. Though he knows that some of his former students might not be present anymore, he tried to be optimistic about the whole thing.

Ashton unlocked the room where he will hold his first lesson for the semester. He entered with no expression on his face since nothing changed in the space where he does his teachings. He knew that this won't be the best time to redecorate the room but he accepted the fact that this time, this room will just be this simple enough.

As usual, after scanning the room, he went outside and went towards his personal room. Watching students enter is really not his thing. His system is, to enter the room once all the students are already inside to avoid uncomfortable and awkward nods and hellos that he might encounter.

Morgana walked calmly down the hallways to her first class in History of Magic. She was looking forward to it, wondering what it'd be like, as she hadn't had the class last year due to lack of a teacher. She reached the classroom door and entered the room.

It was a good room. Simple, clean, nothing to take her focus away. Not that that would be easy either way. She sat down at a random table up front. She looked at the few students that had already arrived and looked up as more students filed in. She sat back, waiting patiently on the class to begin.

The long hand stuck to twelve. Ashton noted his clock and proceeded into his usual classroom.

After several steps further, he finally reached his destination. There, without any emotions on his face, he opened the door and walked calmly towards his table. It wasn't new that only few registered on his subject since for many, general History, no matter what its subject is about, is presumed to be a tool for people to get some sleep. Ashton's goal is to change this perception of theirs.

"Welcome to the first lesson for History of Magic. I am your professor, Ashton Clark, who was assigned to teach you the past events of the wizarding world. For second years, our topic is entitled 'History of Azkaban Prison'."

No one was moving on their seats. Knowing that it is the first lesson, all of the students seemed to have their eagerness to learn and behave to build a nice impressions.

"All of the students of mine are required to read in advance. As an introduction to every classes I handle, I ask a question to measure whether someone did their responsibility or not. This is also a great opportunity for earning points for your houses.

"My question shall be: True or false. Dementors guard the famous Azkaban prison. If your answer is false, can you specify who guards the Azkaban? Ten points shall be given to the designated house."

Morgana listened closely to what professor Clark said. She had read her homework and she thought about his question. She knew the answer, but she couldn't quite remember who ruled the prison now. But she needed to try. Her house was laying low on points, it needed to be restored. So she raised her hand.

"Professor, the statement is false. The dementors were discarded from the prison of Azkaban after 1998, as they had proven to be unreliable when they joined Voldemort's cause. Also, the Ministry, or the Minister, Kingsley Shacklebolt, found the dementors to be too inhumane when it came to guarding the prisons. I can't remember what guards them now, but it is said to be a lot more humane than the dementors," Morgana said, voicing what she could remember about the guards.

"Precisely correct. Ten points to Slytherin." Ashton announced to the class after hearing the student's answer.

"It was a tricky question. Yes, dementors are not the guards of Azkaban as of the present. No one knows what guards the famous prison now but I can tell you that I will not risk on going to Azkaban just to inform myself on what guards it now."

Ashton opened some parchments placed on his table and read some of them to refresh his memory.

"In the icy waters of the North Sea, though the exact location is unknown, lies a small island where the Azkaban Prison stands. For years, it was guarded by the Dementors. These are creatures that was described as 'sightless soul-sucking fiends'. Why is that so? They usually suck the positive emotions from their victims. After only a few days, prisoners have already gone mad because of them.

"When it was still the Dark Lord's time, Dementors were said to have become allies with Voldemort and they let most of the death eaters to escape. This lead the former Minister, Kingsley Shacklebolt to revoke them from their roles. He refused to inform others on what guards the prisoner now."

Ashton paused for a while, letting them imagine and absorb all his words. After a few seconds, he continued.

"There are four noted actions that the Ministry enforced to all of us that will lead our footsteps into Azkaban. These are..." He took a piece of chalk and started to write on the board.
