Morgana walked up away from the dungeon, finding that she needed some fresh air. She walked aimlessly, and soon found herself in the Clock Tower Courtyard. She hadn't been there a lot, and when she got there, she wondered why. Honestly, it was a nice spot, and the clock loomed majestically overhead.

She walked lazily over to a bench, sitting down on it. Her mind wandered, and it reeled back to the moment when she had been caught by the outskirts of the forest, losing Slytherin 20 points. The thought still made her mad, and professor Umbridge was not on her good sided list. The woman had enjoyed taking the points away, that much had been obvious.

And she hadn't even been sitting inside the forest! She had been leaning against the first bloody tree that presented itself, almost all the way down by the lake. Honestly! Sure, maybe she had been too close to the forbidden place, but really? 20 freaking points?!

She took a deep breath, but she was in a rather foul mood when a fellow Slytherin came walking over.

Maya walked slowly towards the clock tower, lost in thought. She had just received a letter from her older brother, whom was unable to attend Hogwarts due to his lack of magical ability, and was now suffering a bad bout of harrowing homesickness. She missed him and his outgoing, infectious character the most. On the occasions that she had experienced homesickness in her first few weeks at Hogwarts she took to wandering the grounds and through this means had found the clock tower. The clock tower was ideal as it provided privacy and a place to think without being watched and had since provided her a safe haven from the loneliness she sometimes experienced. Clutching the letter from her brother she ascended the steps and was grateful to enter the courtyard, as it provided some shelter from the weather.

Turning abruptly when she heard a loud sigh, she spotted a fellow Slytherin sitting on a bench. She had seen this girl in the common room but noticed she tended to avoid the hustle and bustle the students caused and seemed to prefer her own company.  She approached cautiously as the girl appeared to be stewing over her own thoughts. Deciding she needed a distraction, she approached the dark haired girl, wondering whether or not she was doing the most sensible thing and called out to her “hey, are you alright?”

Morgana looked at the girl who asked if she was okay. For a second, Morgana wanted to roll her eyes and say that, honestly, it was pretty plain to see that she wasn't in a jolly good mood at all. But this was a fellow Slytherin. That mere fact was a bit important to remember. She looked to be a first year, and Morgana was sure she'd seen her around before.

She noticed that the girl was holding a letter in her hand pretty hard, and she knew instantly that it had to be from a family member or a really good friend. Given the girl's age, Morgana found it safe to say that she didn't have a boyfriend, or she did, but she didn't know the true meaning of it, and therefore would not hold the letter so harshly. But Morgana couldn't tell if it was from family or friends. Mordred would've known though. Somehow.

She then gave a stiff nod. "I'm all right. But I just lost Slytherin 20 points for leaning against a tree," she said sourly, "And it really wasn't justifiable. Honestly, that woman is never going to be on my good graces."

She then tilted her head to the side. "What about yourself? You seem a bit... distraught," she said, testing the word, not quite sure if it fit what she was trying to describe.

Recognition dawned on Maya as she realised why the hourglass, which counted the Slytherin house points, was so low when she walked by it after breakfast. Not wanting to show her surprise at the occurrence Maya coolly said "I wouldn't worry about it I'm sure it could happen to anyone. Actually how did it happen?" Maya couldn't help but ask. 20 points was an awful lot to lose all at once, she hadn't heard of anyone losing that much points yet and she wondered what would merit such a punishment.

"Just a letter from my brother," Maya replied trying to act nonchalantly, but her eyes lingered on the letter she still held firmly in her hand. She didn't want to show any signs of weakness and she had always been headstrong like this.

Sighing to herself as she looked down at the girl still moodily brooding she decided that she was a fellow Slytherin and she had told her what was wrong with her so she chose to share too. Asking Morgana "do you have anyone your really close to outside of Hogwarts?" And continuing on she said "for me, it's my brother. I'm just  missing him today is all." She finished and attempted to smile lightheartedly, keeping up the facade of trying to mask her feelings.

Morgana sighed. "I was sitting by the forest. Not inside it. And two other students joined me. One from Gryffindor one from Ravenclaw. And then this monstrous professor just comes walking over with this stupid ass excuse to deduct 20 points from all of us for sitting too close to the forest," she said, her tone cold and annoyed. She cleared her throat. "Enough of that though. My mood is foul enough as it is," she said, her voice much softer now.

Morgana could easily see in Maya's face than the letter being 'just a letter' from her brother. It was clear to Morgana that the girl missed home. But she was slightly taken aback by her question. Seemed like the girl wanted to confide in Morgana after all. She guessed a person she'd miss would have to be her father, but she didn't quite know how to miss people. So she listened to how Maya was missing her brother and sighed.

"I suppose that it would have to be my father. But I don't really miss him either. I do, I mean, if I could. But there are certain emotions that are simply a feeling I cannot fathom. Missing someone being one of them. I suppose it's a sort of handicap, really. I wish I could feel that strongly about someone, but I just don't," she said softly, hoping she understood what Morgana meant at all.

Maya understood if she didn't want to talk about it and realised her voice was thick with angry emotion. She supposed she wouldn't be too impressed either if something that unfair had happened to her too. She only thought that there was a rule for entering the forest, not being near it. She had even seen Care of Magical Creatures classes taking place near it. Maybe their head of house would intervene. She didn't want to suggest it though as she didn't want to wind her up the wrong way since she had heard rumours from other students where Morgana had been quite rude, but Maya didn't know if she believed them.

Listening to Morgana, Maya found it hard to take in as she discussed her relationship with her father. She wondered why she never brought her mother up but chose not to go down that route. She always had a good rapport with her parents and siblings even if there was some deeply routed problems that were unearthed every so often. Maya nodded in agreement, trying to convey understanding. "Well at least you get on well together. Do you see him often?" Was all Maya could really say.

"My brother is older than me and we've always been best friends, I suppose I always expected to share this experience with him. But as we grew up together he never displayed any magical abilities and no Hogwarts letter ever came. He's a squib and I think its just harder for him being at home without me than it is for me being here enjoying it without him." Maya finished, breathing out heavily looking at the ground.

Morgana was grateful of the understanding that Maya displayed, even though it might be a bit confusing. "Yes, at least we do that. I mean, we love each other, it's just not displayed on the surface like it is in most families and stuff. And I don't really see him often, though I do always go home during Christmas unless something I don't wanna miss happens here at Hogwarts, and I usually go home during Easter as well. So I do see him a bit. But he works in the Ministry, so he's rather busy and stuff," she said with a shrug.

"How about yourself? Do you see your family a lot?" she asked, though thinking about the letter in Maya's hand, she'd guess it wasn't as often as the girl should've liked.

Morgana had never met a squib or even someone who knew one, so she perked up a bit, interested, but she decided to not pry; it would maybe be taken as rude to ask the girl too much about that. "I see. I guess that must be rather weird, yes. Huh... Are you twins? Or is he older than you?" she asked, excluding younger, given that he hadn't gotten the letter.

Even though Maya tried to understand she found it hard to comprehend as she felt, possibly some sympathy for the girl. Although Morgana didn't seem to mind Maya thought it was sad that she didn't get to see her father a whole lot.

"Oh cool, what does he do at the ministry?" Maya asked, her interest piquing at the mention of the ministry. She didn't know much about it, having grown up in Ireland away from the main location of the wizarding community and receiving very little magical news. Her mother used to work for it years previous but never spoke of it. Maya sometimes read her mother's subscribed Daily Prophet newspapers that she left lying around. She had once glimpsed a picture of the Minister of Magic and soon became fascinated with the whole affair. Although, she was young and most people her age hated politics, she grew to like it as, at times, it appeared to be the only thing in her house that connected her with the wizarding world.

"Well, I hope to go home at every opportunity. As it is, I've never been away from any of them for this amount of time," cocking her head to the side as she thought some more about the subject she continued on "I suppose, its just taking its toll on all of us and maybe it'll just take a little time to get used to." Maya tried to stay positive, just like her brother had told her to in his letter.

Maya noticed Morgana's change in stature at the mention of a squib. She hoped that she wasn't going to ridicule him, she hadn't told anyone else at Hogwarts about him and didn't know why she told this girl.

After she had spoken though, Maya felt reassured and smiled in relief. She realisedwhy she had told Morgana, as she had already shared something important with her, she felt safe sharing something back.

"Not really for me since I'm used to it, but it is pretty uncommon so I suppose for other people it would be. No, he's older. Your age actually, he'd be in second year if he was here.." Maya trailed on, not liking what she was saying.

Morgana noticed how Maya seemed to be thinking something, and the emotion in the girl's eyes reminded Maya of pity, but Morgana decided to ignore it. If people chose to pity her, then that was fine. She just didn't care enough to ask why.

Morgana gave half a shrug. She didn't quite know how much she was allowed to tell people about her father's job at the ministry. But to say that he worked in the Department of Mysteries couldn't be all that bad to say, right? "He works in the Department of Mysteries, and as the name says, I can't really tell you much about it. Not that I know all that much myself. At all, really," she said with a small smile.

She gave a nod. "I want to get home a lot as well. We live in Winchester, actually, which is rather funny, considering what your last name is, right?" she said lightly, "But yeah, I want to be home too, but this place is also pretty great, though it sometimes gets a bit too busy here. I need my space, you see. I easily get headaches if I'm around a lot of people at the same time," she explained calmly.

Morgana listened to what Maya said, having noticed the soft tension coming from Maya when Morgana asked about squibs before it dampened back again. She shrugged. "I suppose you're right. I must say, though, that I don't really care what kind of human you are, be it magical or not. And that's pretty weird, considering my ascendants. But, hey, the world is evolving, right?" she joked.

Maya nodded in response to Morgana's statement about her father. She couldn't tell if she was mocking her, in truth she had never even heard of a Department of Mysteries and then to not actually know what your father did, a little strange Maya thought. Still, she didn't question Morgana on her comments as her own knowledge of the ministry was seriously lacking and she didn't know enough to challenge her.

Maya, half smiled at Morgana. She hadn't even realised that there was a place called Winchester, she had grown up in Ireland oblivious to the fact that she would be attending school somewhere in Scotland until recently. "That's cool." Maya replied, trying to be evasive. She didn't want to make her bad Geography skills known. "Is it a nice place to live?" Was all she could think of to say. "Is it close to the ministry or does or does your father have to apparate?" She wondered what it would be like apparating at will to work everyday, very handy she presumed. When she could apparate she could travel all over the place, she though gleefully. She desperately wanted to travel, having seen little of the world and she thoroughly enjoyed exploring.

"Well, will you be staying for the Christmas party?" Maya inquired, hoping that she wasn't prying too much. "I say it can get very quiet around here during the breaks." Maya still hadn't decided if she wanted to return home for the school holidays, especially after her father's reaction the last time she had seen him. But she would love to see her siblings again. Pushing the discouraging thoughts from her mind, she looked back at Morgana, listening to her reply.

With the mention of ascendants Maya began racking her brain, realisation etched her face when she finally remembered where she heard the name Gaunt before. Gaping at her she blurted out "are you Slytherin's heir?" Mentally kicking herself for being to tactless, for not registering the name before and then for actually voicing her thoughts out loud she suddenly wished she hadn't asked.
