Humphrey smiled as he walked the familiar path down to the library from Ravenclaw Tower. It was almost four, and he was planning to meet up with Ariel at the Astronomy tower for a study session soon. They could have done it at the library like most students, but he had remembered bumping into her up there and suggested that as an alternative. The older girl had thought it was a good idea, so now he just needed to grab some books from the library on older year spells. Ariel had agreed to try to teach him a little of what she knew, and he was excited about the opportunity to learn.

After collecting an armful of books he headed up towards the Astronomy tower. His calves and arms began to burn a little under the extra weight as he headed up the stairs, but Humphrey ignored it. Part of him had wondered if perhaps Ariel was offering to teach him to help him defend himself in case of an attack, like some of the dueling practice proposed at the meeting in the Room of Requirement. He wasn't really sure if that was the case or not, but even if it was regular spells he was curious to start trying them. Because he tried to keep up with Sinead, he'd browsed through spell books of older years before and a lot of them looked really cool, although challenging. Transfiguration in particular fascinated him, even though just looking at some of the spells and what you had to do left him confused. Before he knew it he was at the Astronomy tower and he found a nice place to sit, setting the books down beside him. "Well, don't see Ariel yet but I'm sure she'll pop up soon." he said to himself, looking out across the grounds and enjoying the view while he waited.

Ariel had so much work to do, because not only was she Head Girl, a feat she still didn't understand how she'd managed, but she was also in her last year and her NEWTs were coming up, and she was stressing. She'd be finished with school. For all eternity. Unless she failed them. No, even then! She'd decided a couple of weeks back that if she failed, she'd not return, because she wanted to start her own business. Or whatever. She still didn't know how to, though, but she had a plan: work, until she had enough money saved up to figure out what she wanted to start. She'd liked working at Zonko's, but she didn't think that would be a good job for her forever, as she couldn't really stand working in retail. Maybe she would when she made the rules?

She was on her way from the Gryffindor tower to the Astronomy one, carrying some of the books she really needed to get through, and what better way than to have a study buddy from Ravenclaw? Even if he was four years younger. Humphrey was bright, they'd figure shit out. She had also promised him to try to help him out with some of his own studying, something that would very likely be useful to herself. After all, revising also meant going through her previous years. There might be questions about that as well during the exams, so this might be the best way to remember them. Besides, she really trusted Humphrey, and she wanted him to do well in everything he wanted to do well in. So she'd help him until her face was blue. Which it probably was already.

As she got onto the last set of stairs she started cursing herself for not having thought of using the many shortcuts Hogwarts castle had to offer. She knew almost all of them by heart, but she somehow hadn't thought of it before now. Curse her stupidity. She got up the stairs and looked around, locating Humphrey quickly enough. "Humphrey!" she exclaimed and walked over happily, sitting down opposite him. "Ready for intense studying?" She grinned at him. "But first, what's going on? How are you?" she asked curiously. She also wanted to ask about Sinead and Dakota, but she didn't know where to start, because she honestly didn't understand half of what was going on, so she decided against bringing it up until she knew what to ask.

When he saw Ariel Humphrey smiled a little, glad to see his friend and excited to get started. She, like him, had brought a good-sized stack of books for their study session. "Hey Ariel! Of course I'm ready for studying, that's what us Ravenclaws do." he told her with a bit of a smirk. "The real question is, are you?" he asked, enjoying teasing his friend. He was really just kidding, he knew she wasn't named Head Girl for nothing. Studying might not be as enjoyable for her, but she still worked hard to do a good job. Answering her second question was tougher to answer, and it took him a moment before he replied. "Well, I'm doing a little better than I was over Christmas. It hurt getting stood up by Dakota on the double date I had planned with her. Sinead and Danny, me and Dakota were supposed to go ice skating together over break. Dakota and Danny didn't show." he explained, frowning a little at the memory. "I thought she really liked me, but I guess Sinead was right all along..." he mumbled. He'd known even when he was angry at her that Sinead was just trying to protect him, but it still shocked him that he'd been so wrong about Dakota. They'd been such good friends when he'd first got to Hogwarts that he thought she really cared about him.

After a long pause in the conversation, he continued. "Starting to get over it now I think, it's just hard. Things with Sinead are starting to feel more normal, though, and i'm grateful for that." Humphrey said with a small smile. It was nice to have somebody to talk to about this, because he had made a point of not bringing it up with Sinead. He didn't want to say something else stupid when things were only starting to get back to the way they were supposed to be between best friends. "How are you? Not letting the stress of studying for exams break you I hope." Even to a nerd like him the thought of the NEWT's was rather intimidating. Depending on what you wanted to do after Hogwarts, it could even affect what careers would be available to you after school. Hopefully he'd be able to help her some too today, even if it was only quizzing her or reading things for her while she worked on challenging spells.
