It wasn't rare for Alek to be the one to have to buy clothes every once the seasons changed, and since the weather was getting colder he figured it was time for a new jacket. Phineas needed a new scarf, anyway, so Alek had gotten one for him. Maybe Miranda would get something, but maybe she wouldn't. He had already bought what he needed, socks and things like that, but most importantly a new winter jacket as somehow he figured this winter season would be worse than the rest. His mind was all over the place, though it kept going back to that day Phineas, Miranda and him painted their bathroom a stupid shade of blue just because Miranda wanted it that way. It had actually been fun, too much like how it had been with Rudi and Larissa back in Russia, and for reason Alek couldn't get their laughs out of his head. Sure, he'd heard Phineas and Miranda laugh before but somehow that day it was different.

With his head in the clouds, Alek walked out of the shop with a navy nag in hand, his jacket, socks and Phineas's new scarf well kept on the inside. Pulling his sweater down just a bit, Alek's eyes caught sight of a stain he hadn't been aware was on it when he left home. It wasn't a regular stain, but the evidence that one of the pens he kept on the counter of Ollivanders had exploded and somehow gotten to his sweater. "Oh, for fuck's sake." He exclaimed. Though the stain was probably only the size of an American penny he was now very well aware of it.

Looking up, Alek decided there was nothing he could do about it and continued on. Except as soon as he took one step he noticed a familiar face approaching. It was none other that the geek reporter Evan Williams from Hogwarts. Without thinking, Alek called out "What? Is the paper paying you to trash other shops now, too?" The whole Hogwarts thing he could actually let go, but not the terrible review he write of Ollivanders a couple years ago. Sure, everyone still came to the wand shop but some of the attitudes on the customers changed as soon as the review came out, even though it was easy to see how biased the writer was. For that reason, and truly that reason only, Alek simply could not stand that guy.

Some people say it's always better to see something once than read about it many times. And to satisfy such people, the Daily Prophet often used photographers to help with article improvement. And an upcoming article about tailors' conspiracy was going to be spiced with pictures.  Usually, conspiracy theories of any sort were Quibbler's territory, but the Daily Prophet, the most popular newspaper already, wanted to tap all niche audiences and monopolize the market. Some smaller newspapers were simply bought, but other ones, like Quibbler, didn't want to go without a fight. And an article about tailors' conspiracy was supposed to be a good move to draw Quibbler's readers' attention to the new Daily Prophet column.

And to make this right, a promising young reporter, Evan Williams, was chosen. He had a lot of experience in "revealing" publications (including his Magnum Opus, "Degradation of Ollivander's") and had already worked with photographers more than once. This time, Evan led a team of three (a reporter (himself), a photographer, and an assistant) into Diagon Alley, the main quarters of many secret tailors' societies and orders. This was going to be a one big sensational revelation!

As his companions were busy with taking photos of another atelier, Evan heard a familiar voice. The voice of the person he hated the most. "What? Is the paper paying you to trash other shops now, too?" To play it cool, Evan decided not to turn around to Alek, the owner of the voice and his new archnemesis (Evan's feud with Kynan was in the past now.) He definitely wasn't going to give an enemy any kind of respect. "Yes, they pay me, and pay me well. Much more than what you earn by whatever you are doing now. Did you get a new job after being kicked out of Ollivander's, by the way?" Actually, Evan knew perfectly that Alek still worked there, but this line was supposed to question his competence. To show even more disrespect, Evan opened his sketchbook and started to doodle. Stars, birds, pointers, Alek being hit by Avada Kedevra.

Alek was a little confused with the nerd's actions, but didn't make anything out of it. Evan was weird as fuck, so it wasn't surprising he wasn't even acting like a normal human being. Then Evan started to insult him indirectly, making Alek laugh. [color:36e4=ffcc00]"No, but I don't have to work to have a place to sleep." Alek shrugged, clearly aware that he more action than the former Ravenclaw and definitely proud of that. Staring at Evan, not in an intimidating way but in a more casual one, Alek continued, "Besides, I get more money than you think." his lips curled into a mock smile, because he definitely got the occasional drunk that ended up breaking their wand and he took advantage of that by charging them double. They never complained, most likely because they never figured it out.

Seeing the nerd open up some book of sorts and run his pencil up and down, as if he were drawing, Alek's eyes traveled to the other two people. One photographer, one...whatever. Raising and eyebrow, Alek wondered what they were even doing. What could possibly be worth talking about if it involved a tailor? He was about to head out when the thought actually made sense. Evan Williams was getting ready to trash another shop, this time a tailor's. Turning back, he walked towards Evan and almost slapped the sketchbook out of his hands. "Name one thing wrong with that shop." Alek demanded, realizing he was just a few inches taller than Evan. "Just one thing."

Despite they were talking for less than a minute, Evan already got tired or Alek. As the latter mentioned that he had more money than it seemed, lots of things went through Evan's mind. Theft, robbery, forgery, prostitution. After a moment, however, Evan rejected forgery as a plausible option, since it was most likely too complicated for Alek. Then Evan thought about hinting the Department of Law Enforcement that the wand vendor could do something illegal. If that didn't work, the reporter could alway set the shop on fire, but lately Evan tried to use more subtle means to achieve his goals. No more direct spell offense, like in his Hogwarts years. Now he was above all this childish nonsense. Blackmail, vilification, calumny, denunciation - these were the weapons of a real man, a gentleman even. Although, Evan started to think this way right after his wand was taken from him and destroyed, and he was no longer able to win arguments by the means of magic.

Evan's lack of interest and their mutual dislike almost made Alek go away, but then, suddenly, the wand vendor turned back and demanded to tell him why the Daily Prophet was interested in this particular shop. "Sorry, I can't tell you. Reporters are not allowed to reveal elements of their material before it's released," Evan said in a mocked official tone. "Even if we were best friends, I wouldn't tell you." Actually, if Evan had any friends, he would gladly share this information, since he didn't care about the rules much. But still, Evan had no one who he could trust to tell. "So please go away and mind your own pitiful business."
