Surprises (Nii Miso)

The weather was nice, it was perfect, really. Summer was ending and Camilla was becoming more and more anxious as time passed, because that meant Augustus would probably leave soon and she’d have to get back to Hogwarts. She also had an appointment at St. Mungo’s, but she’d been avoiding it because she had an idea of what they would tell her, and she wasn’t sure she was ready to hear it. Still, she decided to go for a walk. She’d been doing that lately. Taking walks took her mind off things, off everything she had been feeling and off the homesickness.

She was headed to Nando’s, because she loved chicken. Chicken equals life. Camilla couldn’t even understand why Augustus didn’t eat meat, it was glorious! She was only a few blocks away, she had already memorized the way, when she checked her purse for her book. She carried a parenting book, and she had never told anyone about this, because she wanted to be prepared for whenever her time to be a mother came. She was twenty-two now, and her mother and mother-in-law would be coming at her with pitchforks if she didn’t get pregnant soon and give them their preciously desired grandchild. Among the many unnecessary things she carried, she found the book and her clumsy self managed to drop what was inside her purse.

“Noooo.” Camilla exclaimed. It was unfortunate, way too unfortunate, because she was in the middle of the sidewalk, causing traffic. Pens and post-its and make up and her wand all fell into the concrete, and Camilla dived in before strangers could step on them.

Nii wandered around with her thumb in her mouth. Some weird guy put her hair in pigtails before she escaped him. SIlently wailing because she needed to get back where mommy fell down. Struggling and flailing until she wiggled out of the coat he put her in. Stumblingly running off and getting away from him. Soon after she forgot his presence. Tiny bare feet moving along in the sidewalk. As she walked she was moving through people like they were not there. Heading towards the spot where mommy fell down and went to sleep. She hoped she woke up and came back.

Something caught under her bare foot...the wand...and rolled. A wail left her that sounded off. Arms flailed before she thudded to the ground arms raised in front of her and legs at weird angles. She started to cry as she didn't get why she hit the ground. A few items rolled to smack into the woman retrieving thems legs as the little toddler laid there a long moment before crying turned silent and she silently pushed up. Staring at the scrapes without comprehending them other than they hurt.

Camilla was picking up her makeup, lipstick and eye-shadow and all, when she heard a wailing sound. She looked up to see legs of strangers walking by, some in work clothes and others in casual clothing. Her eyes quickly scanned the faces up above, because the sound came from a child. A child was crying. If anyone needed help, Camilla was more than ready to step up and do what she could. With her eyes scanning every face, she was forced to admit that maybe she had been wrong, but as the people cleared and the crying because louder.

It was definitely a child, and when Camilla looked for her wand, she found it close to a small girl. A toddler. The girl was on the floor, apparently she had fallen and Camilla's wand seemed to be quilty. Rushing towards the girl, Camilla picked her up and got down to her knees to look at the little kid. "Are you alright? I'm sorry, my purse just...exploded." She looked around for the parents, but found no one trying to help the girl. "Where are your parents?" she asked, though she wasn't very sure the girl could talk at all.

Nii wailed again with a wail that sounded off even for coming from a child Nii's age. Arms picked her up and she stood there unfocusedly. Her head moving to the corner where mommy had fallen down. Whning a bit before she moved to go to that spot. Not hearing the woman speak. She hadn't heard her ask anything. She heard no sounds. She wobbled and fell to her butt and whine. She seemed to have sprained her ankle. Her gaze hit the woman's knees and moved up to where the mouth was.

Reading the question off the ladies lips she asked then. "Maw-my fall dowun. Go sle-p." The off sounding wordings were followed by Nii's hands making the sign language e quivalent. Her mommy had taught her that. "Nah wake up." The words she couldn't hear held that tone to it that told her own voice never reached her senses. She didn't really look up fully until trying to stand and whimpered. Her gaze caught the woman's face. Scrunching her nose up cutely trying to remember. A hazy image that was her mommy looked like the lady. "Maw-my?" Came the questioning words she never heard herself say. Making hand motions with it. Sucking her thumb as she moved her gaze to the sidewalk spot again. Her mind still remember seeing mommy fall down. The red and mommy not waking. Going sleep but it was still hazy too.

The little girl cried and Camilla’s heart sunk, she wanted to help her and make the little girl happy. Camilla watched in horror as the little girl walked away and stumbled, spraining her ankle. Running towards her, Camilla picked the child up carefully and tried to make out what she was saying. “Your mommy fell down?” She asked, not sure if she was understanding correctly. She seemed to be doing some sort of sign language, but Camilla had no clue what it was or what the signs meant.

“You don’t want to wake up?” Why was it difficult to understand children? Camilla wondered as she tried her best to not make the child feel ignored. In a fit of panic, Camilla held the child and looked around. “Where did you mommy fall down? I can help her.” She offered, waiting for the little girl to point her in any direction.
