ATTENTION: reference THIS thread, which explains the events up until this point, before replying. I SHOULD HAVE ADDED THIS EARLIER BUT FORGOT Razz

OOC: OKAY GUYS! EVERYONE BETTER REPLY TO THIS AS A WITNESS OR ELSE. At this point, Jack VanDerberg, Hunter's brother, has been murdered. This is Hunter's reaction, but nobody has to interact with Hunter, unless you feel that it would make sense for your character to do so. You can just add your character's reaction to what's happened. Since this took place in diagon/knockturn alley, just before the start of school, there would probably be a lot of witnesses. JUST REPLY, OKAY?!

Diagon Alley used to be cool, but it was pretty much old news now. Aside from getting ice cream at Florean's and visiting Quality Quidditch Supplies, there wasn't much else to do there that was particularly exciting. When they arrived, Hunter had taken Lyn with him to pick up school books, while Jack and Lyra had gone off to pick up some other things they would need. Hunter was currently in the middle of browsing the apothecary for extra ingredients that he could use in his potions once he got back to Hogwarts. He picked up a bottle of Dittany, making a face when he saw the price of it. Why were ingredients so expensive. With a sigh, he glanced around to see if anyone was watching and quickly pocketed it. The bottle was small enough that nobody would notice, and it was an important ingredient. Then, he glanced down at his watch to check the time.

"Lyn, come on!" he called, gesturing to his sister that it was time to leave. He was very sure that she wouldn't mind in the slightest, as she'd seemed pretty bored from the moment the stepped into the place and kept complaining about the smell. "We said we'd meet Jack and Lyra five minutes ago," he told her, pulling her along beside him with a grin on his face. If Hunter had to describe his summer so far, he'd have to describe it as the best yet - kind of like his last term at school. He'd had a great year with his friends at Hogwarts, but nothing compared to coming home and hanging out with Jack again - though he'd never admit it to his brother, of course. Or to anyone. But it was no secret that they were close, even for brothers. And the hardest part about going back to Hogwarts every term was leaving Jack behind - it just wasn't the same to communicate with his brother through written letters.

It didn't take them long to reach their meeting spot - the ice cream parlor, of course. But when Hunter and Lyn arrived, their siblings were nowhere to be found. Hunter frowned, looking around - Jack wasn't like Hunter. He was never late. So why wasn't he here? Suddenly, the sound of shrieks broke through his thoughts. Hunter looked over at Lyn in confusion and then glanced in the direction of the sound. It looked like there was a crowd of people further down the alley. "Maybe they're over there," Hunter said, heading in that direction - partly to look for Jack and Lyra, but mostly out of curiosity. As they neared the growing crowd, Hunter could hear people mumbling and gasps, but couldn't see what they were all crowding around. Jack and Lyra must be in the crowd somewhere.

Pulling Lyn along behind him, Hunter pushed his way rudely through the crowd, though a bit more hesitantly. The sounds around him made him think that whatever had drawn it wasn't very good. Furrowing his brow, Hunter somehow managed to find his way to the front, and emerged into a part of the alley that he'd never seen before. It was narrower, and darker. There were little, creepy looking shops on either side. And in front of him, right in the middle, he found both things that he was looking for.

The reason for all of the commotion was right in front of him. And so was his brother. Hunter stared at the scene before him in shock, his eyes pivoting between his brother and sister in confusion. His parents were already there, his mother bent over his brother, sobbing. "Jack?" The name escaped from Hunter's lips without him realizing it, as he stood rooted to the spot, trying to make sense of the scene in his mind. His brother was sprawled out on the ground, and he wasn't moving. What had happened? Forcing himself to snap out of his stupor, Hunter rushed forward urgently to help. He tried to force down the panic in his stomach - there was no reason for it. Whatever had happened, Jack would be fine. Wizard medicine was brilliant, they'd heal him in no time. "What happened? How did he - " But as he got closer, Hunter cut himself off, stopping dead in his tracks. His breath caught in his throat as he looked down upon his brother, who was staring straight back up at him, his eyes unseeing. It couldn't be - but one look at his sister - one look at his mother, shaking and clinging desperately to his shirt - one look at his father, whose face was white and distraught. There was no other explanation.

For a moment, Hunter just stood there, staring down at his brother in complete disbelief. His stomach clenched as his mind tried it's hardest to process what was going on. It was impossible - wrong. It couldn't be real. He knew he should move - that he had to go forward and join his family. But he couldn't - instead, he stood paralyzed. Most people would cry, or scream, but Hunter only felt a sense of cold numbness wash over him - as though his entire being were lashing out against it - refusing to accept it. But then, his mother's anguished face raised, and he met her eyes, and they were all the proof that he needed. Jack was dead.

And suddenly, emotions exploded within him, and he was moving - taking those few steps forward and dropping to his knees beside his brother. "No," he murmured, as a sob shook through his body. "No, no, no," he repeated, as though by saying it over and over he could deny it - reverse it. But still, Jack's body lay there - unmoving, lifeless. Dead. He knew that he should do something. Comfort his mother, pull his sisters into a hug. Be strong for them - like Jack would have. Jack was strong, even in his weakest moments - but Hunter had never felt weaker in his life. And as he did his best to fight back his tears, he knew that he wasn't strong enough. And as badly as his family needed him right now - needed him to step into his brother's shoes and - he knew that he couldn't. In fact, as he looked once more at his brother's body, he was positive he couldn't stay there any longer without being sick.

Hunter reached down, squeezed his brother's stone cold, limp hand, and then scrambled up into a standing position. He had to leave. Going back through the crowd seemed unbearable, so instead, Hunter took off in the other direction, down the alley that seemed to be as cold and lifeless as his brother. Unconsciously, his hand reached into his pocket to grip his wand. Hunter rounded the first corner he could, and the moment he was out of sight, his hand was swishing through the air. "BOMBARDA!" he shouted, a desperate, shaking tone to his voice, backhanding the spell into a barrel as he walked past it. It exploded violently, bursting into pieces around him. But it didn't make him feel any better. His desperation, rising, Hunter turned and slammed his fist against the stone alley wall beside him. But no matter how he tried to take out his feelings, nothing helped. And in the end, he ended up sliding down the wall and burying his face in his knees. Not even feeling the pounding in his hand - a result of breaking his knuckles as a result of his frustration for the second time - he finally allowed himself to break into sobs, not even bothering to control them. And in that moment, Hunter had never felt so alone.

Chapha...also known as Austin...was smoking a cigarette watching the events that led to the white boy being killed. Cracker never even saw it coming. Stupid boy. He didn't care but he felt for the family...very, very minutely...felt for them. The spell the young man used just entertained him. A dark smile crossed his lips. He would be fun to play with. On so many levels but that was neither the time nor the place. He wore a leather jacket to hide the fact he had nothing on beneath it. Aside from pants of course. Blowing out a trail of smoke before following the young man.

Jumping down to land lightly upon a piece of the building that jutted out. Crouching as he gazed down at him. "Hey boy. What seems to be the matter?" He called out with a nonchalant badass tone. "You look like a lost lamb for the slaughter. Why you here when you have people who need you? Not that it matters to me you want to act like a dork." He blew out a trail of smoke. "Seems you are lonely...I knew that feeling well growing up."

PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptySun Sep 14, 2014 5:47 pm

Lyra didn’t understand anymore. What had Jack ever done? He was kind to everyone who actually deserved it. He never did anything terrible. The worst thing he’d ever done was tease Hunter about practically everything. And he hadn’t meant that seriously. He was so hard-working, did most of the work on the farm himself. Jack was the sweetest, most wonderful person in the entire world and he was dead. Before he even finished school.

He was her favourite brother by far. He was always the nice one that didn’t make fun of her and was the one to go to when she was in some silly argument with Lyn. That was before she went off to Scotland for school. She hadn’t had anywhere near enough time with Jack. Only eleven years or so before she had gone off to Hogwarts without him. After that, they hardly ever saw each other. And Lyra had always been terrible at remembering to write letters to him, even when he had written pages and pages to her. Why did she even have to be a witch? If she wasn’t, they would be happy on the farm feeding chickens or something at the moment.

Obviously life wasn’t fair, but this was a step too far. Then again, it wasn’t even life’s fault. It was hers. It was probably life trying to kill her for all the bad stuff she had done, only to accidentally get Jack because she was too much of a coward to stop that man from hurting him. She wanted to kill that man. That heartless, disgusting, sadistic excuse for a person. His face was stuck in her head. She would find him and get her revenge. And she would never, ever forget what he had done to Jack. Her fists were balled up by her sides. She barely heard her parents running towards them, or her mother’s scream when she caught sight of Jack. She just stood, still as a statue, staring into space because she couldn’t bear to look again at Jack’s lifeless, slumped body, or the expression on her mother’s face.

People started to swarm around and she was immediately lost in a crowd, all of whom were pushing forwards to try and get a look at him. Feeling her breathing get heavy and fast, she pushed backwards to get out of the swarms of people. Slightly to the side, she could stand and get her breath back. Only then did her anger deteriorate into what could only be described as hysteria. Tears fell rapidly down her cheeks and she let out a scream. If what she had felt before was awful, this was the most painful, horrible, terrible feeling in the whole world. The reality of the situation was sinking in more and more and all she could think of was him lying there, pale and lifeless.

Suddenly she wanted to see him again and she charged towards the crowds, shoving for her life and shouting his name at the top of her lungs. It was less difficult than she had initially thought - maybe people were clearing a bit of a passageway due to her screaming. The sight before her was beyond describing. Her mother and father were knelt next to Jack, the worst she had ever seen them look before. They were her kind, loving parents who cooked her food and gave her hugs and looked after her, calm in any situation, whether it be the chickens escaping or Lyn falling out of a tree. But here they looked almost as lifeless as Jack and she couldn’t do anything but stand and stare.

Her sister was knelt there too, in tears as she held Jack’s hand. Lyra flew forwards and skidded onto her knees next to Lyn. Without saying anything, just crying and crying and crying, she leaned forward and hugged Lyn tightly, looking at Jack over her shoulder. He was still in that same position. So he was dead. Really, really dead. There was no chance that he would ever be alive again, that she would ever be able to grab his hand and run through the fields and eat picnics and make fun of Hunter and watch bad movies and cook breakfast and dance. All those memories were it. Nothing more.

After what seemed like hours but was only a minute, she let go of Lyn and they both went back to sitting and staring. She could see a figure in the near distance that looked suspiciously like Hunter, blasting something with magic. Anger arose in her. She hated magic. Magic had killed Jack. Magic was evil. For a brief moment, she considered going over to shout and unleash her anger on him, but she didn’t want to leave Jack’s side, or Lyn’s for that matter. Her sister was obviously feeling terrible but surely it couldn’t be half of her grief. Lyn was Jack’s sister, but she had always preferred Hunter and had never been as close with Jack as Lyra had. Lyn would be alright, she was sure, but she wasn’t so certain about herself.

Still crying, she thought back to what had happened. Her parents didn’t know exactly yet. And she didn’t really want to tell them. It was horrible. It was already torturing her as it replayed over and over in her head, the image of Jack falling as the blast hit him square in the chest. And how it could have been her instead. It would have been better for everyone if she had been killed. Sure, they’d be sad but they’d get over it. Nobody was going to get over Jack, because Jack was an innocent, amazing, person. Or, he had been. “It’s my fault,” she whispered, to herself more than anyone else, though it was probably loud enough for some to pick it up. “He’s dead because of me.”

That made her a murderer. She had murdered her own brother. While she had volunteered to be the dead one, he had been stupid and stood in front of her and got hit himself. She could have easily shoved him out of the way or jumped in front of him to take the impact. Even better, she could have defended them with her wand, but she had dropped the stupid thing. What would her parents think when they heard it was all because of her? She sighed. She was still being completely selfish, thinking of herself when Jack was… dead.

Elita was walking through Knockturn Alley, she had been coming from a secret meeting when she saw it, Jack and his little sister. What were they doing here? They did not need to be here. She looked around and noticed all the looks they were getting, they just didn't fit in here.

She was deterring herself to tell them when it happened. When the cloaked figures approached them and the bright flash of light happened. There were shrieks everywhere and Jack was down. "Jack!" Elita screamed, tears begin to run down her face. He was such a nice guy, cute yes, but nice. She enjoyed the times she got to talk to him and now, there was no pulse. No.

Grabbing his hand, she gasped for breath. She was the first to actually approach the boy. His sister stood in the distance shocked. More people crowded around. Two more people came up to him. His parents. Both in horror. Letting go of his hand, she stood up and ran. Ran back down the alley crying until she reached a dead end wall and fell down against it, hitting her knees on the ground.

The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptySun Sep 14, 2014 7:46 pm

Aoife was super excited for this summer. She was going on a trip to Spain with her family next week! It was going to be awesome and she was just going to stuff her face with ice-cream and go on loads of supercool adventures. Unfortunately, it wasn’t next week yet. And before they went back home for her to pack, they were stopping in Diagon Alley for school shopping to get it over and done with nice and early. That was fine, but the novelty was starting to wear off. She was eager to quickly grab new books and things, then get home so she could pack AGAIN and then go to SPAIN!

Of course, while she was in a rush, she had to insist to her sister that they go and buy wizard ice-cream first. She didn’t much like Claire but the girl HAD to try the ice while she had the chance, because it was amazing. Her sister seemed to agree. They were both very happy when they walked out with various weird flavours of ice-cream on their cones. They were just arguing about whether or not their room needed a TFIOS poster when a huge commotion started on the other side of the street. Claire practically dragged her over because she was nosy and they shoved forwards, trying to get through the crowds to try and get a look at what was going on.

The two of them were soon separated and Aoife got to the front first. There was someone on the floor, and people hustled around them. What on earth was going on? She recognised Lyra as one of the faces. And Lyn. Their parents. No Hunter. Was HUNTER the one injured on the floor? She pushed forward more to see. No. No. NO. It was JACK. Poor, poor Jack. And he wasn’t injured. He was unconscious, lifeless and… well, dead. “JACK!” she yelled. But nobody would let her through. Instead, she moved around to the side of the crowds to see if she could get to them that way. While this was happening, she found that there were tears falling down her cheeks. Because he was DEAD. That couldn’t be! Jack was such an ALIVE person. Unfortunately there was nothing to throw and nobody to hit, so she was forced to keep her anger bottled up. Not a good thing.

There was still no way through, but she could see a person huddled on the floor in Knockturn Alley, and some bloke next to him. She decided to head over there to see if she could get any answers. The man was unfamiliar, and she couldn’t hear what he was saying properly, but the boy on the floor was Hunter. Why was he here? Not with his family? His DEAD BROTHER? She ignored the man there and took a seat crossed-legged on the floor next to Hunter. He was crying. Hunter didn’t cry. What could she say that was comforting? Not sorry. Sorry never helped anything. What did you say to a dead guy’s brother? Aoife wiped her eyes and blinked, so if he looked up he wouldn’t be able to tell she was crying. She was tough. “He was the coolest person in the world,” she whispered. “You were lucky he was your brother.”

PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptySun Sep 14, 2014 8:13 pm

Ari wasn't sure what was happening. She heard shouts, and screams, and suddenly crowds of people where gathering around a section of Diagon Alley. She wanted to see what the commotion was. She wasn't over there, so it shouldn't of been that important.

She walked over, not really caring, when she noticed him. Hunter. She smiled at the thought of his name. He ran from the crowd, and suddenly she felt her feet start to follow him. It was like she was magnetized to him. She wanted to go where he went.

By the time she found him again, he was leaned up against a wall on the floor. Another red head was with him. Who was she? She crossed her arms and walked over. This wasn't right. She suddenly realized what was happening. Hunter was crying. Awww... He was so sensitive! She bent down ignoring the other red head and placed a hand on his knee.

There. That would make him feel better. She wasn't paying attention to what was being said. She then looked over at the red head. She gasped. It was HER. That girl she met in the room with the comfy chairs and couches and beds! The one she didn't like! She then remembered Hunter telling her about his old red-headed best friend whom it didn't work out with.

She said, "Your the one the friendship didn't work out with!"

The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptyMon Sep 15, 2014 1:24 am

What had started as a good day at the Ministry was turned into a civil chaos as Lucy was suddenly apparated alongside other aurors to the always crowded streets of Hogsmeade. She didn't have to ask to know that something had happened. Something bad. Her eyes scxanned the area quickly, people were crowded around a spot and most of them with anxious face. There were few of them who shed tears, others were just standing by to satisfy their morbid curiosity. Lucy glanced at the nearest auror and noticed they were already asking people about what they had seen. Coming closer to the cebter of the crowd, Lucy broke her way in until she was standing over a boy and people she thought were his family. They looked vaguely familiar, and Lucy soon recognized Elita. Her mind raced as she tried to figure out why Ella's sister was crowding around the boy, until she figured it might just be a student.

Lucy looked around, trying to see anyone running away or acting suspicious. Nobody did. Except, there was a guy walking away from the crowd, leaving a trail of smoke behind him. Her head wiped back to the boy on the ground as another woman, a witness or something, was informing the Head Auror of the young boy's name. Jack VanDerberg. In that instant, Lucy became lightheaded. Her eyes blurred and she took a few steps back before shaking her head. There couldn't possibly be a relation between this boy and Hunter, could there? She quickly turned to look at the family, and she realized the reason they looked vaguely familiar was because they had some of the same facial features as Hunter.

But where was Hunter? She looked every way possible, and he was nowhere to be found. That's when something inside her brain brought up the man walking away, and pushing her way out of the crowd, Lucy raced after him. She headed for Knocturn Alley, because that was where she had seen the man walk to. For some reason, now that she knew Jack was Hunter's relative, she told herself that the family couldn't have two deaths in one day. Running past more curious bystanders, Lucy heard an explosion. It seemed to be nothing important, a barrel or something like that, but the desperate snap of the smell was a sign that something was happening to the caster. Hunter, she thought. Then there was talking, a man and two girls. Hunter had be there, but she couldn't know for sure until he spoke. Without thinking, only caring for the boy's safety, Lucy drew her wand and prepared herself to attack anyone if it was needed.

She reached them, the same man with the smoke and two redheads. Her wand still in her hand, she took in the scene. The older redhead, whom she recognized as one of Hunter's friends, was to one side of the boy. The younger one to his other side. It seemed mildly comforting until she saw Hunter's face. He didn't look comfortable at all. It was like he was put on a stage, the spotlight shining on him, and he had never intended to be there in the first place. His eyes were flooded with tears and his knuckles bleeding and bruised. She pushed past the man and pulled Hunter up by the arm, not letting go of her wand. "Sorry, girls. Hunter's needed for investigation." A part of her wanted to yell at all of them to leave them alone, even though they weren't even doing anything. Had she been like this with Ryland, too?

Taking him by the shoulders, Lucy forgot the two girls and moved him out of there. Her eyes fixed on the man, whom she didn't trust nor wanted to like, she led Hunter out of the Alley. She didn't want to say anything, for fear she might make him as uncomfortable as his friends had. Instead, she pulled him out into a lighted part of the street, took his hand and fixed his broken knuckles. She didn't want to admit this now, but she loved being able to spells without having to say the incantation. "There. All better. Lucy smiled at Hunter, though she knew nothing was okay now. The pain of broken bones was nothing compared to Jack's death. But she didn't want to make him speak if he wasn't ready for it

She let go of his hand and waited for a reaction. Violent or not, Lucy could handle it. She just needed to know he was not going to put himself in danger.

The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptyMon Sep 15, 2014 2:28 am

Life wasn't always perfect. Sometimes, it felt like it was. Sometimes, it felt like the world was out to get you. But it wasn't until this moment that Hunter fully realized how terribly, inexplicably unfair it really was. Hunter couldn't remember the last time that he cried - it felt strange; wrong, to be reduced to such a pathetic form of weakness. He tried to take a deep breath - to steady himself. But his breath caught in his throat, his chest feeling as though it might burst completely. He vaguely heard a man's voice near him, but it slipped through his consciousness without him so much as acknowledging it. All he could focus on was the suffocating feeling of loss that he just couldn't shake - the knowledge that he'd lost something that he could never get back, and never replace.

Hunter sat there, closed off from the world around him, and allowed himself to drown in his own misery. He didn't know how long he was there - even seconds felt like hours to him at this point. It wasn't until a body slid down the wall beside him that he dared to process anything going on around him. He glanced up, only ever so slightly, and his eyes - as always - found red. Aoife. It was strange, almost fitting, that it was her. If it were anyone else, he might have sent them away. But Aoife - whether they were friends or not, Hunter had been through a lot with her. And she knew Jack. Jack loved having her around. So he didn't lash out at her, though part of him wanted to.

He didn't say anything as she joined him - in fact, once he registered who it was, he lay his head back on his knees and refused to look at her. Mostly because the last thing he wanted was to be seen in such a weakened state. Still, as she sat next to him, he could feel the warmth from her arm, which was just barely touching his own. And somewhere, far in the back of his mind, he took some comfort from it. But it was small and short lived. Hunter felt a hand lay gently on his knee, and glanced up again, surprised. Aoife was hardly a touchy person - but it wasn't Aoife. It was another redhead. A smaller one. One that Hunter recognized, but that wasn't welcome. Who the hell did she think she was, intruding on him at a time like this?

But before Hunter could shout at the younger girl - tell her to leave - Aoife was speaking, and Hunter did his best to listen. He focused on the soft tone of her voice more than the words coming from her mouth, as though it might somehow soothe the panic that was rising in his chest. But it didn't. When she finished with what she was saying, Hunter finally looked up at her, still not actually meeting her eyes. "Was," he repeated darkly, the brutal finality of it resonating through him like physical pain.

It was strange, that only moments ago, it had felt like time was dragging on, and now, it felt as though everything was moving so fast. Because suddenly, he was being pulled to his feet by a third person. Hunter instantly recoiled, the physical contact causing him to tense further. But it only took him a moment to recognize Lucy, and he stopped fighting. He trusted Lucy. What difference did it make, anyway, where he was or who he was with? As he stood, his good hand unconsciously found Aoife's, his fingers clenching lightly around hers for the briefest of moments. He wasn't sure why - maybe he was thanking her for trying to be there for him. Maybe he needed to take that last bit of comfort from her.

And then he was gone, being led by Lucy somewhere - it didn't matter where. As they walked, Hunter tried to steady himself - to end the sobs still shaking through his body, to slow his breath. But no matter what he did, the pressure in his chest wouldn't cease. He wasn't paying the slightest bit of attention as they stopped, and he stared down at his hands while Lucy healed the knuckles he'd broken. All better, she'd said. All better. It was these words that broke Hunter out of his stupor - these words that sent a burning rage through him. And then, all of a sudden, he was shouting.

"All better?!" he exclaimed, a dangerous tone to his voice. "All better? What the hell is that even supposed to mean?!" Hunter could hear his tone rising, but he didn't care. "Nothing is better - nothing will ever be better!" he shouted, desperation entering his tone. His hands shook with a mix of panic and frustration as he clenched them, trying to relieve some of the tension, but it didn't help. It always felt like punching something would help, but it never did. "My brother is dead!" he screamed. And somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew it wasn't fair of him - that Lucy hadn't done anything wrong. But even as he thought it, the urge to shout diminished slightly and was replaced by a dull ache. "He's dead," Hunter repeated more weakly, lifting his eyes to meet Lucy's. How was he supposed to get through this?

PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptyWed Sep 17, 2014 6:19 pm

Aoife regretted saying that. It was stupid. Like in one of those movies when someone was crying and someone said something cliché and everything was alright again. But real life wasn’t like that. Usually in real life, when your incredibly awesome brother had just been murdered, you were sad or angry or distressed. So really, anything she had to say wouldn’t be so useful here. Still, she could have come up with something better than that. She decided to shut up until she found something good to say.

It seemed Hunter agreed that it had been stupid because he was quick to repeat the operative word in the sentence. Was. That was too much for her and she buried her own head in her knees because that evil first-year would not see her cry, no matter what. She didn’t bother acknowledging her stupid statement, partly because she wouldn’t be able to speak without bursting into mad sobs.

Before she had the chance to offer him some slightly old haribos from her pocket, there was a woman coming over to them quickly, one of the group of Ministry people she had seen just turn up. What was the point? They were too late. Jack was dead. But this one was familiar. That Lucy girl who Hunter had been friendly with. Aoife had always thought she looked quite nice. Not so much now she was practically dragging Hunter away. Investigation? Investifuckinggation? When his brother had just died? She’d never held any respect for the dominating, evil beings at the Ministry, but now she disliked them even more, with their cruel methods and heartless staff.

Her anger at LucyGirl didn’t last long, though. She felt Hunter grab her hand. And for once, she didn’t even think for more than a second about Hunter’s cooties, or immediately pulling her hand away. It almost felt natural, at least would if hand holding was ever a natural thing. A hint of a tiny smile traced her lips, but her expression went back to neutral when she remembered which crazy redhead first-year was present and what was happening.

There was no point in following. Ministry people had some sort of magical authority. Like, the type that could get her arrested or something. Aoife just put her head back against her knees, blocking out the commotion she could hear around and closing her eyes so she wasn’t distracted by Ari’s awesomely awful hair.

Ari was still not sure what was happening. Just that everybody around her was sad and crying. She looked up at the mean red head and wondered what was wrong. Ari herself was present so everything should be perfectly fine!

Some creepy man was there with them, and another lady showed up and took Hunter away from her. HOW COULD SHE DO THAT?

He was HERS! Didn't she understand that? She didn't want to leave the girl who used to have the ugly smurf blue hair alone with the creepy guy so she stayed with her because she was also upset. Ari simply just didn't understand what was happening. She asked, "Why is everybody so upset? I'm here, so shouldn't everything be better?"

Her Aunt always said that she made everything better for her, so shouldn't that apply to everybody? Of course it should! She shouldn't of even asked the once blue headed smurf that question. But none the less, she wanted to help the ex-blue head feel better so she placed a comforting arm on her head. She hoped she didn't get lice or something. That would be terrible.

She said, "Everything's going to be OK! I'm here. So everything is better."

The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptyThu Sep 18, 2014 1:46 am

Seren's family had wanted to go to Diagon Alley earlier in the week, But Seren had convinced them to wait a few days because Hunter had told Seren he would be going slightly later. Of course, she had gotten her way. Unfortunately, Seren's STUPID PARENTS were insisting that Seren spend the first part of the day with them. This was mostly because Seren's younger sister, Arwen, would be attending Hogwarts that term. So Seren had to help Arwen shop for her belongings as well as shop for her own.

They were ALMOST done an hour later. Seren just had to take Arwen to the owl emporium to pick out an owl. Because Seren couldn't be expected to share HER owl, could she. But of course, they somehow managed to run into a HUGE crowd of people on their way there. Why were all of these people standing between Seren and her destination?! Didn't they know that it was important for Seren to get her sister back to her parents so that she could see her AMAZING BOYFRIEND WHO SHE HADN'T SEEN ALL SUMMER? Seren sighed in frustration when getting through the crowd seemed to be impossible. PEOPLE WERE SO STUPID.

Perhaps whatever had caused this was worth seeing. So Seren shoved her way to the front to see what was going on, but when she got there what she saw stopped Seren dead in her tracks. Tears instantly filled her eyes at the scene before her, and panic filled her chest. Seren instantly turned and pushed her younger sister back before she could see. "Arwen, go find Mom and Dad. I just have to do something quickly, okay?" Seren's sister didn't need to see. Seren didn't even want to see, but as soon as her sister was off safely she pushed to the front again.

Hunter's brother lay dead on the floor. His sisters were there. His parents were there. But where was Hunter? Seren knew her boyfriend, and knew that his reactions were extreme when he was hurt. She had to find him. Further down the alley, Seren could see commotion, and also bright red hair. If Sheep Freak was there, Hunter may be there too. So Seren rushed in that direction, just in time to see Hunter round the corner with a ministry worker. Aoife sat on the ground with another redhead, perhaps her little sister, and was obviously crying. Seren left her be, taking off at a run after Hunter, her hair whipping back behind her. When Seren finally caught up, Hunter was shouting at the woman who had led him away.

Seren ignored her, only taking in her boyfriend's broken face. He'd been crying. "Hunter!" she called as she neared him, but didn't slow her pace. Seren kept running, right up until she hit into him. She threw her arms around his neck, tears freely running down her face. "Hunter, I'm so sorry," she whispered into his ear, still ignoring the woman standing with them. Seren knew that it was the wrong thing to say, but didn't know what else to do. There was nothing else Seren COULD do, so she just held onto him. This woman would have to PRY HER OFF if she wanted Seren to leave.

PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptyFri Sep 19, 2014 9:47 pm

Lyn was bored. She was bored, because after three years she was already used to the weird people in magic hats and cool owls flying around and broomstick shops and posters with people that moved. So, when she arrived to Diagon Alley with her siblings, she was so freaking ready to leave. She didn't care when they all decided to split up- she was used to it. Hunter bought all the things, Lyn found somewhere to sit and watch. The usual. So when Hunter was finally pulling her out of the (apoti- no, apot-something, apothecary!) apothercary, Lyn was happy to be outside in the sunshine and leaving. But they had to go find Lyra and Jack first.

Although they were five minutes late, it struck Lyn as odd when they didn't find Lyra and Jack immediately. They wouldn't be late. Especially not for ice-cream. Ice-cream was good. Lyn was suddenly too lost in her thoughts about ice-cream when Hunter was pulling her away. When she took in her surroundings, she realized that Hunter was pulling her through a crowd of people. Oh, yes, they were looking for their siblings! Then she also realized that Hunter had stopped. Lyn looked.

There was her brother, Jack, on the ground. Her parents and Lyra were sobbing, and suddenly so was Hunter. Lyn's eyes widened and then went over to Lyra. She grabbed Jack's hand. It was so... lifeless. Out of impulse, she put two fingers on his wrist. There was no pulse. No, no, that couldn't be it. He was just sleeping. Or maybe he took some kind of sleeping potion that made him look dead like Juliett did, for that girl Aylee or something. He wasn't dead. He was going to open his eyes any minute and say "Gotcha!" and tease her about Toby like he always did. He wasn't dead.

Hunter was already freaking out, Lyn saw him run across the street. She felt her sister hold onto her and start to cry. He's not dead, he's not dead, she thought. He's not dead. Her parents were still crying over Jack's body. Lyn didn't know when, but tears started leaking out and then she was grabbing Jack's hand and holding onto Lyn because it couldn't be. It wasn't fair, not to them, not to him because he was a cool brother and even though he was a Muggle, he still deserved to live. Lyra was muttering something to herself, and Lyn could also see other people crying and yelling about Jack. There was Aoife, and then Seren, and other strangers she didn't know... and then Lyn was slipping out of the crowd because she couldn't bear looking at him anymore. She hoped that Lyra didn't mind.

She left the crowd, and just stood there, staring at the backs of people who were trying to figure out what happened. Lyn couldn't deal with it. She couldn't realize that the person who she considered her least favourite sibling, the one who teased her about her love for animals, who laughed when she grumbled about eating bacon, the muggle with so many wizard friends, Jack VanDerberg, he was gone. She would never see him smile or laugh or joke or be grumpy or anything ever again. Lyn felt dizzy. No, no, no, she thought. She was leaning against a wall now, her head in her hands. Her eyes were dry and icky now, but she would probably still be crying if it wasn't for that.

PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptySun Sep 21, 2014 10:49 pm

Being in Diagon Alley was like ... knives in the chest. Darcy had always gone with her father. Always. And the last three years it had been her father, Ariel and her. Now it was Ariel and her. Only them. Mary being off to god knows which friend, as per usual, it was only them and the key to their vault. Ariel was hanging a bit behind when Darcy saw the commotion. Her eyes narrowed a bit as she saw people who were obviously from the Ministry, trying to get people to depart. Darcy felt her curiosity spike, but she decided to just walk past them, when the word 'murder' found its way to her ears. She instantly changed her mind and walked a bit further up and tried to see past the people. A man shuffled to the side, and Darcy gasped.

A guy was lying on the ground. She took a few tentative steps forward and horror flushed her as she recognized the guy. The one with the same name as her father. Jack. She felt her face drain of blood and she had to look away. Her eyes landed on a girl kneeling next to him. Another wave of cold water flushed over her as she recognized the girl as the Gryffindor girl in Ariel's year. Lyra. Lyra VanDerberg. Goosebumps rose on Darcy's arms and shivers ran down her back. She had never felt so scared in her life. Lyra had to be his sister. The way she was crying, the way she was kneeling so close, the way the parents seemed to keep close.

Ariel. Darcy spun around and rushed back to where Ariel was standing with an icecream cone in her hand. "Ariel, let's go back," she said, her voice coming off awfully shaky. "W-we should go back. Now," she insisted, and tried to pull her sister with her when her eyes landed on a lone girl, Lyra's sister. Darcy couldn't remember her name. Something on L, that she knew. And she looked so alone. So lost. So much like Ariel when they received the news. Just much more shocked and scared. Darcy stopped. She froze and didn't know what to do. She wanted to get her sister out of the range of the body, but she couldn't get herself to leave the small girl behind. She was at a complete loss of what to do.

PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptySun Sep 21, 2014 11:22 pm

Ariel noticed how hard it was for Darcy to be in Diagon Alley. This had always been their thing. But it wasn't the same anymore. Ariel found it weird to be in Diagon Alley without their father, only having been there two years with him. Darcy had been there five years with him. Ariel decided not to think too much about it, though. And an ice cream helped greatly. She walked a bit behind Darcy, as she saw a few stuff in the Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes that looked pretty awesome. She stopped completely and studied them as she noticed Darcy had done the same.

Some commotion was a raging a bit further down the street. Probably just a street performer. Ariel wasn't really interested, so she just looked on. She was just about to turn away from the awesome joke artifacts when Darcy was there, pale as a sheet and shaking, saying they should leave. Ariel instantly felt scared, her eyes probably turning to a white shade. Darcy was then steering her away. Ariel started shaking herself. "What's going on?" she whispered as Darcy stopped again.

Ariel followed her line of sight and landed on... Lyn. Lyn was standing there, leaning against a wall. Her face was buried in her hands. Ariel felt her breath catching. "W-what's going on, Darcy?" Ariel repeated, feeling terrified. Her eyes drifted to the crowd. People with business faces were standing there. Ministy workers? Panic. Hunter. Where was Hunter? And Lyra? Had something happened? Ariel suddenly couldn't stand still.

She wrenched free from her sister's hands and darted to the crowd. A ministry man grabbed her and held her off. Ariel almost screamed, but refrained. As the man lifted her away, she saw dark hair. A boy. He was dead. Ariel had never seen him before, but he looked an awful lot like Hunter and Lyra and Lyn. Ariel couldn't breathe. "Hunter," she whispered, trying to locate him. Where was her friend? Where was he?!

Ariel felt herself grow frantic as she tried to spot him. And while doing so, her eyes once again landed on Lyn. Suddenly, her mind calmed down. Hunter. Hunter would be safe. He had to be. And if he was, he would want his family to be safe. He just wouldn't think of it right now. Lyra was with her parents. Ariel had seen her. But Lyn was on her own. Ariel grit her teeth as she turned away from the crowd and walked towards Lyn. Hunter was all right. She continued to whisper this to herself, trying to believe it. She reached Lyn. She stood a couple of feet away from her for a moment, silent.

What should she say? What could she possibly say? What did she want to hear when her dad died? Nothing. Nothing was consoling. Because it was all a lie. Everything wasn't going to be fine. Sorry wouldn't bring him back. Condoling wouldn't be making it better. Ariel grit her teeth. "Lyn?" she finally managed. She placed a hand on the girl's shoulder. "I'll... I'll leave you alone if you want me to," Ariel whispered, "But I'll also stay if... if you want me to."

The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptySun Sep 21, 2014 11:35 pm

So, spending time in Diagon Alley had been positively awesome. People had been so nice. Not that Arwen had really spoken to them. Seren did all the talking. Seren was cool. Superior. When Arwen grew up, she was going to be just as cool! Until then, she would have to remain small and unnoticable, because that was what Arwen liked. The comforts of not being noticed, and not having to speak to complete strangers. Strangers were scary. Just like her parents would say. Don't talk to strangers. So Arwen didn't talk to strangers. Any strangers.

They had just finished all the shopping apart from getting Arwen an owl (she was going to call him Aragorn, and it was going to be a brown owl, because Aragorn had brown hair) when a commotion of people blocked their way. Seren seemed abashed by this, and therefore, so was Arwen. She was also curious, but she tried not to show it to her amazing sister. They pushed through the crowd, Seren managing to get in to the front first. And then her sister stopped dead.

Arwen grew more curious and looked around Seren's waist. Arwen only saw a glimpse of the person on the ground and the people crying, before Seren pushed her out of the crowd and -with shiny eyes- told her to go get their parents. Arwen suddenly felt scared, but Seren was gone before Arwen could blink twice. She looked around. Only strangers. A man looked down at her. She blushed and rushed off, trying to remember which way she was supposed to go in. But she didn't know. Where should she go? She was lost!

Not trying to steal attention!!!:

The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE)   The Aftermath (OPEN - EVERYONE BETTER JOIN OR ELSE) EmptyMon Sep 22, 2014 4:06 pm

In the middle of his explosion, Hunter vaguely heard someone calling his name, but it was fuzzy and distant - like he'd pushed it to the back of his mind without really meaning to. But even the slight recognition of it caused anger to well up in him - who the hell was bothering him now? It was like, all of a sudden, he was some huge celebrity and everyone was seeking him out. Trying to help - acting as though they could help, when really, not one of them had the slightest idea of what was really going on. Moment by moment, Hunter's world was crashing down around him, and there wasn't a damn person on the planet that could stop it now.

Still, the moment that Seren collided with him, and Hunter realized who it was, he reacted immediately - almost instinctively. His arms slid tightly around her waist, his hands gripping the back of her shirt like he'd plummet to his death if he let go. He breathed in her familiar scent, and tried to use it to calm himself. But it didn't help. In fact, though Hunter felt slightly wrong thinking it, Seren didn't help, despite how familiar and comforting her presence normally was. And, though it didn't make sense, Hunter knew why.

It was because she didn't know - she didn't know Jack, and she didn't know what it meant that he was gone. She was crying - but so was everyone else. And while Hunter knew that she cared about him, he also knew that her tears weren't the same as his. Hers were just a natural reaction to death - so unlike those who would be truly effected by Jack's loss for days and months and years to come. And as he began to loosen his arms, preparing to let go, he couldn't help but think that he'd drawn more comfort from his brief moments with Aoife than he was taking from his suffocating grip on Seren.

As Hunter's arms slid from around Seren, his hand finding hers out of instinct more than anything, he glanced back at Lucy. It seemed like he'd managed to shock her into silence with his outburst - or, at the very least, she wasn't talking. Just staring at him with an expression that Hunter couldn't seem to place. Taking a shaking breath, Hunter looked away from both of them. And he knew that he couldn't stay there. "I have to go back," he said to nobody in particular, forcing a steadiness into his voice that he didn't know he was capable of. He had to - he had to go back to be with his family - to be with his brother.

Gripping Seren's hand tightly, Hunter pulled her along with him, suddenly absolutely desperate to get back. The crowd still gathered around the scene was sickening - they didn't know Jack. They didn't even know Jack's family. They were just sick, curious onlookers who couldn't help but flock around such misery, and it took everything Hunter had to not blast every single one of them out of his way. Actually, maybe he would have, if his eyes hadn't landed on one small, insignificant person, leaning against a wall a bit away from the rest. Lyn.

And for the first time since everything had happened, Hunter felt a bit of his focus shift from himself. He didn't even hesitate, changing route and heading straight for his sister. She was with someone - with familiar people. Ariel and Darcy. But Hunter paid them no mind - he just dropped Seren's hand the moment he reached his sister and wrapped his arms protectively around her, pulling her into him. And in that moment, he tried desperately to transfer whatever comfort he could - though, he wasn't sure there was much, if anything, in him to give. His hand came up to hold her head to his chest, and he lay his chin on the top of her hair.

Ariel was there. Ariel, his light in the darkness. The one person who could make him smile, no matter what. Until now. Even her presence couldn't destroy the cold wall that he felt himself building, it's strength growing with every second. He tried to meet her eyes, and knew that his own face must look more haunted than she had ever seen him before. And he couldn't hold the gaze, but he did manage to mouth a quick "thank you" to her over his sister's head. Even Ariel's positivity couldn't help him now - but her attempt to comfort his sister was more appreciated than she could know. "Lyn, I have to go back and - " Hunter's voice broke as he pulled away from his sister. "I just have to go back. You can stay with Ariel, okay?" He didn't bother trying to tell her that everything would be okay, because it would be a disgusting and blatant lie.

Hunter looked back at the crowd again, the thought of pushing through it only to emerge on the terrible scene for a second time almost paralyzing him. But he had to go. He allowed himself to slip his arms around Ariel's waist, burying his face in her hair for the briefest of moments, before turning and darting off toward the crowd. He wasn't sure if they would follow him, but it didn't matter. Nothing mattered, and as Hunter started shoving through the crowd, mercilessly elbowing and pushing those around him, he steeled himself for what he knew he would find when he reached the front.

But no matter how prepared he was for what he would see, Hunter couldn't stop the pain slicing through his chest when his eyes took in his dead brother for the second time. Slowly, fearfully, he approached, and sank to his knees once more by Jack's lifeless body. He felt his mother reach for his hand, felt her body shaking beside him, and Hunter knew that she wasn't giving out comfort but seeking it, as she stared down at her dead son. And Hunter had no comfort left to give, but he knew that Jack would, if he were here. His brother would never allow his family to suffer if there was anything that could be done to stop it. And it was only this thought that caused Hunter to wrap an arm around his mother's shoulder, his hand squeezing hers tightly. Together, they looked down upon the most amazing person Hunter had ever known, and said goodbye.
