Lucia was standing behind her desk as she watched the students filing in. She had prepared the lesson and on the blackboard the potion for the day was written in capital letters. She had decided to join some classes, as it was a very practical solution. Not to mention it wasn't such a difficult task for the professors to make the classes suit their schedule as it had been some other years.

She smiled at the students and as they took their seats, she instantly started the class. "Welcome, welcome back to you old ones," she said with a twinkle in her eyes, "It's good to have you back." She then pointed to the blackboard, not wanting to waste much time. "Now, Elixir to Enduce Euphoria. What is this potion?" she asked, looking at the students, wondering if anyone would know.

"And also, what are the ingredients?" she asked.

Potions. Ew, cutting up slugs. But maybe that wouldn't be a part of today's lesson. She hoped so. Aoife was determined to gain house points, though, so she was going to pretend to be an amazing Potions student! How hard could it be if she concentrated and followed exactly what it said in the book? And, in her determination to win top student, last night she'd studied a while so she was now much more knowledgeable about the subject. Yes, actually studied, because she was that determined to win house points and top student for Gryffindor.

"Hi, professor," she said brightly, beaming at her head of house because she was a nice lady. She walked in and took her seat, somewhere in the middle of the classroom.

And the first question. She knew the answer! At least, she was pretty sure that she did. Elixir to Induce Euphoria. Aoife remembered it from the book last night! Her hand shot up. "It's a bright yellow potion that makes you really happy," she said. Now what was in it? "And... er... there's peppermint and wormwood. And those beans and the shrivellyfiggy thing." Close enough, she thought.

There was only one class that Hunter was really interested this term, and that was potions. Since last year, when he'd delved into brewing potions as a way to get his mind off of "the incident," he found that he actually had a real passion for it. He'd spent a ton of time on his felix potion, and even though it hadn't turned out, Hunter had gotten a lot better at the finer techniques of potion-making, like how to stir a potion precisely by "an eighth of a turn counter-clockwise" and how to crush ingredients to get the most useful consistency out of them. If he didn't do things just right, the felix potion had let him know by turning the wrong color, and then Hunter would have to make amends for it.

At the same time, Hunter was the slightest bit nervous about entering the classroom. Mostly because he'd have to come face to face with Professor Henley, who he'd been stealing ingredients from to start on a new Felix Felices potion. He didn't have all the things he needed, so he'd been taking them from the storeroom. And Hunter wasn't sure if Henley had noticed the missing ingredients or not. He'd been careful to only take a bit at a time to minimize the chance of her realizing.

When he arrived, he made his way quickly to a desk in the middle of the classroom next to Aoife. If Henley suspected him of anything, she didn't show it, and Hunter was able to relax. His eyes glanced at the board, which indicated that they were going to be working on a Euphoria potion, and Hunter actually grinned. He'd already managed to brew that one on his own, so this lesson would be a breeze. When Henley asked about the potion, Aoife responded. And she got it right - mostly. "Sopophorous beans," he corrected her easily without bothering to raise his hand. "And porcupine quills," he added.

Ugh. Nadia disliked Potions. The snake stayed in the back of the classroom, trying to keep to the shadows. Nadia tried not to talk to anyone, and if she did talk to anyone, she needed to stun herself, while locked in the Slytherin girl's dormitory, alone. Being alone was the best thing in her opinion when it came to the Slytherin girl's dormitory is because some of the people who were sorted into Slytherin didn't even belong there.

At least it was Potions. She was going to have to stay for potions, because of her git father. He had always wanted his little girl to be experienced in Potions. Maybe she would be interested if the teacher wasn't a Lion. Lions annoyed her more than any other house. Just because of their stupid heroics and the way they make everything confusing. Nadia was thinking about leaving at any given moment, but then remembered that her father finds out EVERYTHING.

The professor asked a question about the potions they were learning today. Of course, it was an easy question, so Nadia tried to answer it. Before she did, some Lion answered it. She shot a glare at the girl before becoming a bit more calm. She watched as Hunter corrected that obnoxious girl. At least he knew what he was talking about.

Lyra didn't like nor dislike potions. She knew it was important to a lot of jobs and would be good experience, so she would definitely continue the subject until she graduated. Maybe she wasn't the greatest at it naturally, but really it was memorizing things and following instructions. Nothing a bit of studying and common sense couldn't help her with.

The class started very quickly and she propped her arms up on the desk to deal with her class mainly filled with gits and morons. For example, Aoife answered the first questions and she couldn't be serious with how she was pronouncing the words. Then Hunter stepped in to obnoxiously correct her. And Lyra noticed a pretty Slytherin girl at the back glare at the blueheaded girl. What was her problem? Aoife had probably just pissed her off like everyone else.

She just wanted the actual potion making to start now. The following instructions part.

Lucia looked at Aoife thinking and answering the question. She smiled at the girl's descriptions and when she finished, Hunter corrected her words and added the last ingredient. "Quite correct. Ten points to you, Aoife, and five to you Hunter," she said and turned to the blackboard. She waved her wand and the chalk started filling out the process of the potions they would be brewing.

"This is not the most difficult of potions, but I think it's a nice way to start the year. So, are you all ready to begin?" she asked rhetorically. She turned back to them and smiled. "This potion will be more fun than most as well. At the end of the lesson, you're all going to get a drink from the elixir," Lucia said. Her eyes swept over the Slytherin in the back. She looked like she could use the potion.

"Now, just get to it. Ingredients are in the usual cabinet," she said with a smile. She then walked over to her desk, which gave her time to think about the fact that some of her ingredients had gone missing. For now, she suspected a professor had been there to find something, possibly even Logan, and the person had forgotten to leave a note. It had been so little, and most of the ingredients had been of the healing kind.

Hunter grinned up at Professor Henley when she gave points to both him and Aoife. Gryffindor was definitely going to win the house cup this year! And it seemed like it was going to be a pretty good day, because they got to drink the elixir once they'd finished brewing. That meant that everyone would be in an awesome mood for a while after class. Maybe they could have a party or something in the common room afterward, since they'd all be so happy and shit.

When Henley said to get to work, Hunter turned the heat on beneath his cauldron and gathered the ingredients that he would need. He didn't bother opening his textbook to see how to make it - he'd done it before and it wasn't too difficult. He took the shrivelfig and dumped it gently into the cauldron, followed by the right amount of porcupine quills, and moved on to stir the potion four times counter-clockwise. He'd taught himself to make his turns precise - sometimes, just a half inch further than four turns could make a potion less effective.

He went ahead and added the rest - peppermint, sopophorous beans and wormwood in that order - his hands deftly working through the different ingredients. Six more stirs of the potion counter-clockwise would do it, and as he ended his sixth turn - exactly where he started it - he was done. He quickly removed the heat below the cauldron and pulled out a vial to take a sample so that he could submit it to Henley for grading at the end of class.
