Lucy had thought about this for a while, and Phoenix supported her crazy idea of going out to live on her own, though he had asked her to not live completely alone as it would worry him more than it should. He had offered to ask some of his friends' children, but Lucy wanted new people to meet. She sat on the terrace and thought about just asking Ryland to go live with her, having some sort of Malfoy family kind of thing, but dismissed the idea quickly after remembering how hard it would be for him to live in the city.

She would have to take him to the country every full moon, and Lucy wasn't sure she could do that. He was in need of a parent, and Lucy couldn't be it. Finally, she decided to take Selene's advice and room with one of her professor friends for a while, at least until he got a place of his own. Then, she would look for a real roommate. She was deep in concentration when she heard the door to their terrace open and saw Ryland standing in the doorway. "Hey." she said awkwardly.

Things between him and his family had been a bit rough, lately. Ryland was spending more time alone, sending owls back and forth with Wade, making arrangements to see him over the weekend, over the summer. His days with Lucy were counted and his study nights with Phoenix were done already. Ryland knew that out of all the things he could do, leaving his sister and father were going to be the hardest. However, the truth was that they weren't his family. Not by blood.

There was one thing he'd learned from the side of the Malfoys that Wade belonged to, and that was that blood meant everything. He wasn't pure, that much was known to everyone, but he could change that. He could ignore that part of his identity and become better than most of the Muggle-Borns he knew. Ryland could be better than his classmates, better than brainy, know-it-all Aylee. Better than Lucy who spent her days worrying about perfecting every spell. He could be better than a lot of people, f only he let go of his blood line. Lucy's side of the family would not help him, either. They loved everything that had to do with Muggles and the likes, something Ryland was trying to repress in himself.

He'd spent enough time under the Malfoy's shadow, though. For now, he would pretend as if none of this was going through his head. Taking the stairs up to their terrace, Ryland found Lucy sitting and looking off into space. When she turned around to greet him, the awkwardness between everyone was thick in the air. "When do you leave?" he asked, getting right to the point of his visit upstairs.

Shocked by the apathy in Ryland's voice, she answered rather rudely. "In a week. Maybe even before that." It was true that she hadn't been the only who'd changed. Ryland, her beloved brother, was amongst the Malfoys who had taken a path completely of their own. Phoenix wasn't disappointed in them, maybe just in Wade, because he knew that Lucy wanted to move out for her own good, and Ryland was interested in things such as the Dark Arts and Creatures simply because he liked them. Not judging them harshly was Phoenix's way of letting them go off on their own.

"What are you going to do now? With graduation, I mean." she asked him, trying to get rid of the thickness in the air.
