Forging New Friendships (Maxwell)

Blake lounged around the Middle Courtyard, dodging homework. He hated it with a passion and as all of his other friends were busy doing their latest batch of enforced torture Blake made his move and escaped from the Common Room. He had never actually been to the courtyard and aimless wandering had brought him here. He loved adventuring and coming across new hideouts to hang out in. He loved the grounds the best, but the weather had deterred him and he was forced to stay inside. He didn't fancy getting drenched. So far, he was loving his new stamping ground, but maybe it would be better if he had someone to hang out with.

Dear God, don't tell me i'm lost, thought Maxwell as he walked into what looked like a court yard. "Where is my sister when i need her." he whispered to himself. The day has not gone good for Max, not only was he late for most of his classes but now he couldn't remember where his common room was, he knew it was a tower, but where it was, was the real question.

Blake looked up as someone broke the silence that had descended around him. He squinted up at a brown haired boy. Most certainly a first year he determined as he didn’t recognise him and he was a little on the small side. Scratch that, he was pretty small! Blake wasn’t going to comment on that though, he was conscious enough about his height and it was nice to come across someone that was smaller than he was when he was in first year. Blake noticed that the guy appeared a little distressed and was muttering to himself. Probably not a good sign. He hadn’t spotted him yet, but Blake took the initiative since he was the older student and approached him.

“Hey little guy.” Ok, that wasn’t fair considering he was a few inches shorter than him, at most. “What brings you here?” He asked curious as most people were inside enjoying the warmth that the castle offered. At least he now had someone to talk to, even if they had appeared to venture this far accidentally.

"Little!!" retorted Maxwell, he turned around to see a tall boy look at down at him, he gulped, the boy was probably two or three inches taller than him, he didn't want any trouble so he answered the boys question "I'm looking for my sister Leila, also i'm kinda lost." he said as he scratched the back of his head "I forgot where my common room is."

Blake grinned in spite of himself as the boy looked nervous looking up at him. It was nice not being the first year and actually meeting someone that was younger than him for once. The power was going to his head! He did have flashbacks of his own time in first year, seeing as it wasn’t that long ago the memories were quite fresh. He remembered how people had treated him with respect and welcomed him, even if he wasn’t the friendliest at times. He decided now was his turn to take on the responsibility and act mature. “Sorry, believe it or not, but I was smaller than you when I was in first year!” He smiled, trying to convey that he was joking. The little kid would probably end up taller than him thanks to karma!

“Leila?” Blake frowned. He recognised the name. Oh yeah, the Slytherin girl. He had heard Hunter mentioning her before, saying she was nice. “Oh yeah, she’s in second year, with me." He confirmed, remembering that he knew of her. He wondered did she know him? "Well, she’s definitely not here.” He said, glancing around the empty courtyard. “Were you meant to meet her here?” He answered, slightly confused at how he had ended up in the courtyard in the first place. “Don’t worry, I know the way back to the castle.” For once! "Well, I almost certainly I know the way." He said, beginning to doubt himself. He seemed to be getting lost even more than he was in first year, not that he was going to tell the boy that! Blake decided it was because he was becoming more daring and adventorous now that he was in second year and he was venturing to more places he didn't know. Thus, giving him more of a chance to get lost. Who could argue with that logic? “And the first step to finding your way back is to admitting your lost, so your half way there!” He joked making light of the topic. He used to get so frustrated himself when he got lost.

“Well what house are you in? I don’t recognise you.” He asked. “And what’s your name? I’m Blake by the way.” He said, giving the dark haired boy a friendly grin.

"Yes, she said she would meet me here in a minute, but i'm sorta impatient." he grinned. "My names Maxwell, but everyone calls me Max, i'm in Ravenclaw." he said, he looked around to see his sister when a tall girl with long blonde wavy hair came walking towards then "Oh there she is." he pointed to his sister.

"Hey little brother." said Leila ruffling his hair. She looked down at the boy next to him, she was at least three inches taller than him and smiled "I see you've made a friend, Hi, i'm Leila." she waved at him "Sorry i'm late max, but those stupid stairs just have to change when i'm on them, so whatcha doin?."

“Oh, well good to hear you’re not completely lost then!” Blake replied, slightly relieved. He wasn’t too confident himself on the return journey back into the warmth the corridors provided and he didn’t want to look lost in front of a first year! “Ok then, Max. Maxwell is a bit of a mouthful.” Maxxie he said in his head, it had a cool ring to it!

Blake looked up when Max spotted his sister. Ok, he had definitely never seen her before! “Are you sure you two are siblings?” He questioned vaguely as he glanced between the pair. They looked like complete opposites. Blake chuckled to himself when the blonde girl called him ‘little brother,’ he wouldn’t have been too impressed if that was him. He obviously got called little quite a bit so.

“Hey Leila,” Blake greeted, already feeling on friendly terms with the girl. “I’m Blake.” He replied, “Not much. I was just keeping your brother company while he waited on you. He claims to be lost!” He joked, grinning at Max. “And I hate those stairs too! You could spend all day going in circles on them.” He rolled his eyes, displaying his frustration. “So what year are you in?” He realised that she wasn’t in his year, he would have definitely remembered her if he had seen her in class before!

"Stop it!!" He said taking his sister's hand out of his hair "Just wait until i'm taller than you." he looks at Blake as he question he and his sister being related "Yes, we are, sadly." he said rolling his eyes.

Leila smiled as she looked at her brother, she knew just what buttons to push. She turned to Blake and smiled as well "Thanks for keeping him company, we Blackwoods, though very tall, seem to get lost easily." She giggled "oh i'm a third year, what year are you in?"

Blake laughed as Max admitted that they were related, he thought he’d surely be denying it after her sister was busy annoying him. He looked at the pair and couldn’t help grinning; even though siblings could clearly get on your nerves he always wished that he had one. At least then he could get rescued by someone every time he managed to get lost! He could also tell that Leila was winding her younger brother up, he just laughed some more. Poor Max!

“Yes, being tall does seem to run in your family.” He chuckled, making a point of looking down on them as he said it. “But, getting lost seems to be a trait in my family too, so we’re all good there!” Although, Blake was glad now that he had ventured out into the courtyard, at least now he was making new friends. Something that was void from his first year life. “I’m a second year, which explains why I don’t really recognise you. Do you know my friend Hunter?” He questioned, remembering Hunter mentioning her. “How’s Slytherin life?” He asked, raising his eyebrows in Max’s direction too, obviously Leila wouldn’t be much better than him in helping Max find his way back to the Ravenclaw tower.

Leila smiled at Blake's getting lost comment. "Oh Hunter, yeah i know him, but i haven't seen him in awhile." she nodded slightly "But that's mostly my fault, you see theirs this girl named Aoife and she loves Hunter and hates me, and i don't want any trouble, so i've sorta ignore him sometimes." she said scratching the back of her head.

Leila tucks a strand of hair behind her ear nervously "To be honest Blake, i dont really like Slytherin life, i just dont seem to fit in, i'm a bit to bubbly for them." she smiles

“Oh that sucks.” Blake was about to ask why she hadn’t seen him much and suggest maybe they could hang out. When she explained the reason, Aoife. “Yeah, you do not want to be on her bad side! Pretty sure she hates me too. And I don’t especially have any friendly feelings towards her so I guess the feeling of dislike is mutual.” Blake grinned, grateful that there was someone he could share this with. “She’s too loud anyway. Don’t get me wrong, I do like a bubbly character.” He added quickly as Leila explained why she didn’t feel like she belonged in Slytherin. “But there’s bubbly and then there’s obnoxiously loud!” He laughed. “Yeah, you also seem too nice for Slytherin.” He laughed, hiding his grimace. There were some older Slytherin that looked like they needed to be avoided and he would hate to share a common room with them. “What about you Max, you got the brains of the family or is that me just being generic?” He turned to the brown haired boy, wanting to include him in their conversation.

"Its generic, everyone in our family, since Hogwarts was founded, was sorted into Ravenclaw." Maxwell looks at his sister and smiles "Well, almost everyone." he smirked.

"Oh poor Leila!" Blake laughed at Max's dig. "Looks like little Maxxie can stick up for himself here." Blake laughed, swinging his arm around Max's shoulder. "So how come I never see you guys in class?" Blake questioned. "You can't be too smart for class, can you?" He asked, directing his question at Max. "Or is that just a family thing too?" He joked, looking back over at Leila, wondering why he hadn't seen her around much before.
