Morgana walked from the castle to Hogsmeade for a new day on work. Her feet were shuffling in the snow, some of the white getting into her shoes. She didn't mind. She did like to be in the warmth, but snow was an exception to her preference. She was often mesmerized by how it made the world seem a bit more peaceful and bright. She walked past the Three Broomsticks and looked inside, seeing a lot of people there, warming themselves with a cup of butterbeer.

She hurried on and walked into the ice cream parlour she had gotten so used to being in. She gave a nod at her boss, who had gotten used to how she had a hard time smiling to people. As long as she was being friendly, he didn't mind. And there were people who had started conversations with her and seemed to enjoy them, which had left the boss with the decision to keep Morgana there.

Morgana took on her apron and washed her hands, then walked behind the counter, trying to look as friendly as she could as her first customer of the day walked up to her.

Maya awoke early a plan forming in her head as she had slept. She was going to Hogsmeade today, and by herself. Most people were too busy doing unconventional and unimportant stuff to Maya anyway. Also another reason for going to Hogsmeade by herself was now she could do what she wanted, the last time she had gone she was forced to go along with what other people wanted to do and to please them she compiled to do so.

Maya wore her warmest clothes, wrapped up in a woolly matching scarf and hat to venture and weather through the snow. As she was arriving into Hogsmeade more snow had begun to fall and whipped up around her face, causing the bit that was exposed to feel as if it was freezing. Her toes had also become painfully obvious as they were screaming frostbite at her. Out of all the extra layers she had thought to wear, why she didn’t put on an extra pair of socks? Maya squinted as best she could through the snow that was falling thick and heavy now. She really didn’t know how much more of this she could take, but she was determined to try and find one shop in particular. The one that sold butterbeer! She had heard so much about it from the older students and even people in her year. She was becoming ashamed to admit that she had never tried the traditional wizard drink and plus, she had heard it did wonders to warm the body up!

Maya decided that she had had enough and clutched the door handle on the nearest door, forcing her frozen fingers to turn the knob as she entered the shop. The warmth hit her and she felt relief flood over her. This shop was empty though, why was that? Maya began to take off her many layers of clothes and set them down on a nearby seat, rubbing her hands together for warmth. She glanced around the shop, looking for signs of what it actually was. She had never got the chance to read the sign on the outside. Ice cream, damn! No wonder it was empty, who even wanted ice cream at this time of year? Why would the shop be even open? Maya thought to herself disgruntled by the fact that out of all the shops she had the luck to walk into the ice cream parlour. Maya was tempted to leave, but the cold still hadn’t left her toes so she was stuck her now until the snowstorm died down a bit. Normally Maya was an avid ice cream fan and eater, but the thoughts of eating something cold really didn’t appeal to her senses at that moment in time.

Maya approached the counter, knowing she would have to buy something or else she was liable to be thrown out. She was too busy grumbling to herself to notice the person behind the counter until she was right at the counter. “Oh hi Morgana.” She said in a surprised tone. Her greeting was less than enthusiastic and friendly, but her day out so far had been rubbish and all Maya could of think of now was the roaring fire that would most certainly be surrounded by students in the common room. At Morgana's she reanly burst out laughing. She most certainly wasn't the friendliest looking staff member she had come across and Morgana looked almost bored. “I had heard you worked here, must have forgotten though. “I think it’s strange that students are allowed to work here, in Hogsmeade.” Maya continued on, trying to cover for her greeting. “Especially in weather like this.” She added, in an undertone to herself. “So” Maya glanced to the selection of ice cream they had on display. “This might sound odd, but you haven’t got anything warm to serve, have you?” Maya looked hopefully at Morgana, knowing that she probably thought her request was outrageous seeing as they were in an ice cream shop.

Morgana looked at the person, so relieved to be dragged out of her boredom. She never thought she'd be the first to feel salvaged by the sound of people coming to make noise… But she supposed work was a completely other thing from when she went to the Stone Circle to relax.

However, it was even better when she realized that the person was none other than her fellow Slytherin, Maya. She hadn't spoken to Maya for quite a while, probably the Christmas party, and before that Maya had been gone for a while. Morgana wondered if it had anything to do with the disease, but she suspected not. That would mean Maya had been cured. And they didn't seem to know what the cure was yet.

"Hello Maya," she said calmly, her voice not as bored as she had been two seconds ago. Thank Merlin for that. She looked at the girl who seemed to think that she had walked into the wrong shop. But Morgana didn't say anything as she started a small conversation. "Yes, I found it a bit weird too, but when I was a first year, it was sort of nice to have this job, as it gave me an excuse to see Hogsmeade, even though I didn't get to enter other shops before I was in my third year," she said. At the mention of the weather, Morgana looked outside. Yes, it looked as though the snow might snow her in before the end of the day, but that was what magic was for right?

She looked to Maya again as the girl asked if there was anything warm to get here. She looked at the different ice creams. "We have coffee flavored ice cream, and butterbeer flavored as well. They are enchanted ice creams, so they are very warm, and functions just as a normal brew of butterbeer would," she told Maya. "We also have several flavors of tea extract that are warm. Also, we have simple cups of coffee or tea. I actually think we have some bags to make butterbeer of, but the ice cream is really good, and, weirdly enough, warm," she said, using the words she would've used to an unknown customer. Of course, Morgana acted like a kind person when there were unfamiliar customers. Maya really wasn't unfamiliar, and would probably only think it weird if Morgana was pretending to be overly friendly.

"What brings you to Hogsmeade, though?" she asked curiously, tilting her head a bit to the outside, hinting at the weather, wondering what would make Maya walk all the way from the castle to Hogsmeade in this biting cold.

Maya felt uncomfortable under Morgana’s scrutinising stare. She wondered if there was something wrong with her, did she forget to brush her hair this morning? Well she probably had a serious case of hat hair at this stage so it would have made no difference. “Really, you weren’t allowed to enter any other shops?" Maya asked, slightly dumbfounded by the stupid rule. If you were mature enough to work, surely you were old enough to enter the shops in Hogsmeade. She also wondered if Morgana had actually stuck to that rule. Probably, since she still had a job. Well Maya was glad she didn’t bother sacrificing her free hours to work in a shop, just to never be able to leave the confines of it again. She had always longed to go to Hogsmeade, but she calculated that in that respect it wasn’t worth it. Still, she wasn’t looking down on someone for working. “What made you want to work here in the first place?” Maya questioned, recalling that Morgana’s father was an Unspeakable. Even though she didn’t have a notion of what that involved, surely something that was that classified paid well and Morgana hardly needed to work? Each to their own, Maya reasoned.

Yes! Maya stopped listening after she heard the effect of the butterbeer ice cream and started searching for it through the glass, where all the ice cream was laid out in rows on display. Relief flooded Maya’s features as she didn’t know how she was going to return to the castle on a full stomach of ice cream. Thank Merlin for wizards and their magical ice cream ways. Maya was slightly taken aback by Morgana’s forwardness and willingness to give information. She considered this for a moment and put it down to working in the shop. She probably had become friendly and kind when dealing with the customers. Not that Maya had ever found Morgana unwilling in conversation and she appreciated Morgana’s refined ways.

“I’m allowed here if that’s what your’re wondering!” Maya replied quick, being slightly paranoid about Morgana’s question. Truth be told, she wasn’t too sure if travelling off to Hogsmeade by herself was wise. Her parents had gotten wind of all the odd disturbances that had occurred recently and had warned her to stay safe. Maya had really given up on listening to her parents in recent months though. She thought again about Morgana’s question and understood what Morgana was hinting at. “Yeah, it wasn’t really a day to come to Hogsmeade was it?” She replied more calmly, hoping her previous reply wasn’t too odd. “I haven’t seen anybody else here from Hogwarts.” Although that really didn’t mean there was any around. Maya’s vision was momentarily disabled by the weather so she couldn’t see two feet in front of her, never mind the faces under the cloaks. “I really don’t envy you having to come to Hogsmeade in weather like this. I actually came to try some butterbeer, I suppose an ice cream equivalent will have to do.” She said, trying to remain polite and not complain about the fact that she had never meant to turn up in the parlour.

Morgana shrugged. She understood Maya's confusion, but Morgana hadn't minded. Hogsmeade was great and all, but even now, in her fifth year, she didn't find Hogsmeade overly interesting. It was a rather dull street, where the only brilliant thing was the butterbeer, which she could get in her own shop. So she didn't really care a lot for Hogsmeade. To her, Hogwarts was the wonder and beauty.

Morgana didn't quite grasp the concept of why people asked such questions as why. Why not? But she did respect Maya and wouldn't be going bonkers at that girl for no reason. So she sighed. "I think it was a bit because of my father. At the time when I started my first year, he didn't have a steady job, because people seemed to be fragile as glass everywhere he worked," she said calmly, thinking about the way people couldn't take criticism without being mortally wounded. He'd been let go several times. "So I decided to take on some responsibility and ice cream didn't seem like a bad thing to work with," she explained to Maya.

It was easy to see how relieved Maya was by the warm ice cream information and Morgana pointed out the butterbeer tasted one as Maya was obviously looking for it. She wondered if Maya would like one of them, knowing the answer would most likely be yes, but she didn't get to ask before Maya started saying, in a rather panicky way, that she was allowed to be in Hogsmeade. Morgana almost raised an eyebrow at what sort of fool Maya thought Morgana was, but she managed to keep it down and keep her monotone face.

"I know you are. You're the year younger than me. I met you in second grade," she said calmly, wondering how easily Maya forgot. Stuff like that was easy to remember. They did live there for a complete year. But once again, Morgana kept her thoughts to herself. She did know how easily a human's pride could be wounded. That was the difference between her and Mordred. Mordred didn't care about human pride and therefore said whatever the heck he wanted to say. But Maya then seemed to understand the question and replied to it the way Morgana had been expecting.

She wasn't surprised that Maya hadn't seen any students here. In this weather, who saw anything at all? Morgana gave a nod and took up the spoon and looked back at Maya. "Do you want it in a biscuit or a beverage? And how many scoops?" she asked, the question rolling of her tongue, having been saying that for five years. "Also, the weather is bad, but it's all about learning the right spells to shield yourself from the cold," Morgana said, "I took it upon me to learn some because of the long walk down here." She had been practicing for hours on those spells. They were amongst the trickiest she had ever learned. Keeping oneself warm from such a natural thing as weather was no easy business.

“Oh, well  that’s a shame but I see why you chose to work.” Maya said, wondering why the people around Modred were dropping like flies, as she picked up Morgana wrongly. Maya didn’t really see anything wrong in Morgana’s socialising skills consequently not making the connection that she would've inherited her bluntness from her father. Who knew working as an Unspeakable was so dangerous, Maya thought to herself. “Are you going to become an Unspeakable too?” Maya blurted out, the question appearing on the tip of her tongue.

“No it doesn’t,” Maya commented, as her mouth watered just taking in the different flavoured ice creams, the ferocious weather outside momentarily forgotten. Maybe some jobs had some perks. “Do you get free ice cream?” Maya asked, suddenly wondering what the pay was like. She was starting to come around to this whole job thing. Maybe not relying on the old parents for a while was something she needed as well. She hated asking for things, especially money. And now that her parents were busy questioning the motive behind every sickle she spent it might be time to become more independent for some time. Still, she did like her sleep on at weekends.

Maya let it go when Morgana stated that she was the only one year younger than her, thinking it was odd, but her earlier reaction probably brought on the comment. Morgana didn’t seem too bothered about it, she was just reminding her she supposed. It wasn’t like they had many classes together.

“Oh yes, sorry.” Maya said as Morgana directed the conversation to why she was actually here. “No, just the ice cream thanks. And as many as you can give me!” Maya looked around the empty room. “I hope I’m not keeping you.” Maya stated, seeing that there was actually no one else around. She looked in behind Morgana, wondering if her boss was lurking in the back room ready to give out to Morgana the instance she slacked off.
