Lesson 1 - Third and Four Years Empty
PostSubject: Lesson 1 - Third and Four Years   Lesson 1 - Third and Four Years EmptyFri Jun 21, 2013 5:48 pm

Zaiden entered his class slightly earlier than was needed, and sat down at his desk. The classroom was rather plain, as he hadn't done anything to change it. He knew very well that decorations were just distractions, and he didn't want to be the kind of teacher to always be reprimanding students.

The professor looked around, waiting for the bell to ring. He did not have much to do in preparation for the class, and he realized that he could afford to come to the class a little later.

Feeling slightly bored, he checked his watch and saw that there was still 5 minutes left before classes began. Flicking out his wand he studied it rather fondly. Though it was not the first wand that he had bought, back when he was eleven, it still felt that he had it for a very long time. Waving it in the air, he levitated one of his quills, flying it around his desk area. The bell rang right then, and he hastily dropped it back down on his desk. He opened the door with another wave of his wand. He looked up to see the students file past him and sit at their desks.

Sydney strolled into her ancient runes class and smiled at Zaiden. "Hello professor." She sat at her desk in the front row right in front of his desk and blushed lightly. She took out her books and leaned back in her chair slightly.

Upon entering the classroom, James silently greeted Sydney and then took a seat at the back. He wasn't used to having classes with the third years, but since they were all beginners in Ancient Runes, it seemed fitting.

He didn't know the professor yet, as he was one of those who had just arrived at the school, but he seemed rather nice, at first sight at least. While the others still arrived, James glimpsed at his schoolbook, wondering what this subject will be like.

Zaiden glanced around. Not everyone was in class. The professor shrugged and faced the student who had spoken to him. "Hello Miss Hale." he replied warmly, smiling back at her. Thinking that he could leave the students a few more minutes before he started the class, he waved his wand at the chalkboard behind him, making the chalk fly up and scrawl his name and the date across the top, along with ten symbols under them. Once that was done, he went back to fiddling with his wand, looking at his watch every now and then. In a quiet murmur, one he was sure would carry to the young man at the back, he said "We're just going to let the others have some time to scramble over here."

Sydney was starting to get bored so she started drumming her fingers on the desk. she was keeping the beat to her new song she had just written. she was softly humming the lyrics, hoping no one else could hear her.

Aylee half-walked, half-ran into the classroom panting. "Sorry, Professor!" she exclaimed. Instead of launching into an explanation on why she was late, she found a seat at the back of the classroom and sat down. Biting her lip, she looked around and realized that only Sydney and James were here.

Aylee saw Sydney motion to her to sit down in the front. She shook her head and stayed in her seat, starting to pile out some parchment and quill in front of her.

Seeing a student rush into the class and pant "Sorry, Professor!", he decided that he gave the students enough time. Nodding his head and smiling at the newcomer, he looked up to the rest of the class. Three students... Well, it's a start. he thought to himself, only slightly disappointed.

"Welcome, for those of you who made it, to Ancient Runes." he began, flashing a smile at all of them. "My name, as you can clearly see, is Professor Zaiden Black. This is my first year teaching, so forgive me if I make any mistakes through out our time together." Getting up out of his seat, he walked around the front of his desk, leaning back on it. He ran a hand through his messy hair. "Now, I'm going to tell you know, I tend to forget names easily, so you'll all have to bear with me... To help me in memorizing them, I'd like you all to tell me your name, year and what you know so far about this subject." He looked at the student's faces one by one, and smiled warmly.

When the professor finished speaking, he laid eyes on James. "My name is James, and I'm in Ravenclaw, fourth year." he announced, glad that there were only three students in the classroom and that he knew all of them. "I don't know much about Ancient Runes, except that they're an old language made of various symbols." he admitted.

Zaiden looked at James, smiling. Once the fourth year had finished, he nodded and said "Alright, good! By the way, it doesn't matter if you don't know much on the subject at the moment, it's what you're all here for. Now, anyone else?"

Aylee bit her lip and spoke. "I'm Aylee," she said. "I'm a third year. And, like James, all I know about Ancient Runes is that it is about ancient symbols." She looked down and bit her lip again.

Auden rushed into the classroom. "Sorry Professor. I woke up late." Auden scanned the room. She noticed that it was only Aylee, Sydney, and James. Auden was happy that Aylee was taking this class because Auden didn't really know the others well. Auden then plopped next to Aylee in the front.

Since this was his first time going to Ancient Runes, Ryland had a terrible time moving around the castle to find the right classroom. Finally, he made it and he was only about one or two minutes late.

"I'm very sorry, Professor Black." Ryland smiled as he entered the room, looking for a seat that seemed nice enough to spend the rest of the year in. After a few seconds, he decided to'take a seat next to.the only other boy in the room.

Seeing as eveyone was introducing themselves, Ryland decided to go next, following the same format.everyone else seemed to be using.

"I'm Ryland Marcotte, a Gryffindor, and Third Year. I don't know very much about the.subject besides the basic fact that is a language which uses symbols, very much like hieroglyphs I suppose."

Zaiden was about to say something to hopefully make Aylee feel less nervous, when Auden and Ryland entered the class. He nodded to they're apologies for being late, not being too severe on their first class. "Not to worry, just try to be on time next class, hmm?"

He then looked up at Ryland as he he introduced himself and told what he knew of ancient runes. Hieroglyphs, huh, interesting comparison... "Very good, Ryland. That's true, it is very much like the symbols of hieroglyphs." He nodded approvingly to the Gryffindor. Looking around, he waited for someone else to speak up. If not, he would just go on and start explaining the first symbols on the board...

Auden followed Ryland's lead.

"Hi. I'm Auden Mayer. I'm a third year Ravenclaw. I know that for centuries cultures have been using symbols as their language. Some include, the Vikings, Egyptians, and others."

Zaiden nodded to Auden, a smile still on his lips. "Alright! Well, we're going to move on." He moved over to the board and pointed to the first sign. This is the rune signifying zero. The Demiguise is used to represent the number due to it's ability to disappear." He looked around, hoping he had everyone's attention. This was the part of the class that had been boring to him when he was a student. He felt the more exciting part was when you translated ancient texts. "Little fun fact," he said, "Did you know that the Demiguise's silky hair is used to make invisibility cloaks?" Shrugging, he only waited for a moment.

"Anyways," he went on, pointing at the second symbol, "This is number one. The unicorn's horn symbolizes this... Can anyone maybe tell me the third?" he asked, looking around brightly.

Zaiden smiled at the answer, though it was not exactly what he had meant. "Very good, Aylee. That is true... but can you tell me what is used as the symbol?" He doubted that anyone really knew what it was, but he still asked, just in case...

After rapidly scribbling down what Professor Black explained about the first two symbols, James switched his attention to the third one. It depicted the head of some sort of bull-like creature, with two large sharp horns. A brief glance at Ancient Runes Made Easy informed him that it was named the Graphorn.

Seeing that no one was answering, James timidly raised his hand. "Is it the Graphorn, sir? I guess it is used as a symbol for the number two because of its two horns?"

Silently scanning the room before entering, Lucy quickly spotted James as he spoke. She hoped the professor wouldn't get upset about her late entrance though she knew she would most likely have to serve detention. As soon as James was done talking, Lucy took a seat next to him and saw Ryland on the other side of his Ravenclaw friend. Sending them both a smile, Lucy turned her attention to the professor, waiting for him to say something to her.

Soon after Lucy, Wade swung the door open. He had his backpack around his shoulders, and even though it was a little heavy, Wade still managed to drop it to the ground with a small thud. He had quickly chosen a seat next to Ryland and was already sitting down when he realized he might have to apologize. However, he decided it was probably Lucy's turn to go first, so he, too, waited for the professor to call on him.

Sydney silently sat in her seat. She didn’t want to answer any questions today and she silently prayed that she wouldn’t be called on to do so. She started twirling her hair as she softly bit her lip. She looked up at her fellow classmates and avoided any eye contact. She wasn’t normally nervous, so she wasn’t sure why she was right now.
