| Welcome to the Potions Guide. I’m sure you’re excited about the opening of the Potions Club, so please carefully read this Guide in order to understand how potion making works. Brewing potions is a great way to earn points for your House and some extra galleons, and most importantly to have a great time. How to make potions? The potion club allows each of its members to make a certain number of potions, which they can use in duelling or role-playing afterwards (for example, if you successfully brew a Polyjuice potion, you can use it to take the appearance of someone else). There is a list of available potions for every year. For example, first-year students are able to attempt to make the most basic potions. Every member can try to brew the potions that are listed for his year and the years below. You can find a list of available potions for first-years below. Each potion requires a certain amount of ingredients in order to be made. Generally, the more advanced the potion, the more ingredients are needed. In order to start making a potion, one must first gather all the required ingredients. Some of them will be available for students to take in the Potions Dungeon cupboard. Others and more rare ones will have to be bought on Diagon Alley (in Slug and Jiggers Apothecary), while students can also find some ingredients if they search through the grounds around Hogwarts (such as the Gardens, the Forbidden Forest, ...). Once a student has collected all the necessary ingredients, he can begin the potion making process. The process consists of a number of steps determined by the Potions Club Moderator. The more difficult the potion, the more steps it has. The student starts by describing the first step in order to make the potion. He or she must find the right steps to make the potion in a Potions textbook. If the Potions Moderator sees it is alright, he gives the student a clue. The clue will be some sort of logical task, like a riddle, an anagram or something similar (it can be potion related but doesn't have to be). If the student resolves the clue, he can move on to the second step. He describes it, gets the second clue, .... and so forth until he completes the process. The more advanced the potion, the more difficult the clues. If he successfully makes the potion, he gets the said potion and a certain number of House Points as a reward. - Here are all the potions available for first-year students to make: | Name | Effect | Uses | Difficulty level | Ingredients | House Points | | Weak Wiggenweld Potion | Cures minor damage | - Duelling: Restores 10 Life Points

We might still change some things about the Potions Guide so please check it regularly. Potions for second-year students will be available soon. The Potions is open for students as well as for adults (including professors). However, at least for now, adults will only be able to brew first-year potions. If you have any suggestions, please post in the Suggestion Corner. For any questions, contact one of the administrators. Thank you for reading and good luck. | |
